“Half Sisters,” the feature film from Oregon filmmaker Devin Fei-Fan Tau, starts its limited theatrical run this month. The film stars Kristy Dawn Dinsmore (“Vikings”) and Sydney Winbush (“Shrill”). April’s theatrical release will be followed by a wide run on demand in July.
“Half Sisters” centers on two estranged half-sisters – one white, one mixed race – reuniting after the death of their grandmother, at a remote family cabin in the midst of a raging storm. Learning that a $1M inheritance is at stake, the two women become reluctant allies, facing down multiple threats — both internal and external.
The Southern Oregon shot Discovery series “Growing Belushi” launches its third season on April 5
In its first two seasons, “Growing Belushi” offered viewers a look at actor and musician Jim Belushi’s southern Oregon cannabis farm, mixing insights into the business with banter between Belushi and his cousin Chris, and hijinks from Belushi’s “According to Jim” castmate, Larry Joe Campbell.
“Growing Belushi” Season 3 premieres at 9 p.m. April 5 on the Discovery channel.

This year’s Outdoor Adventure Film Grant (OAFG’23) called for personal stories from and about the BIPOC community and Oregon’s outdoors. This year’s theme was specifically “The Nature Gap” – the uneven and inequitable distribution of wild, outdoor space based on race or socioeconomic status.
The OAFG’23 aims to help support and amplify stories and storytellers (both in front of and behind the camera) by utilizing Oregon’s outdoor spaces as a backdrop. Experienced BIPOC filmmakers and their on-camera subjects were invited to apply with a short film pitch that would inform, inspire, capture, and/or reveal a personal journey involving an outdoor pursuit that is set against the backdrop of Oregon’s majestic landscape.
Oregon Film through its Creative Opportunity Program is offering two grants of $15,000 each to Oregon-based filmmakers or filmmaking teams. The grant is designed to support a non-project-specific, virtual residency, allowing filmmakers to develop, explore, and shoot the stories they want to tell in any film format they choose. While all applicants are welcome, there is a special emphasis on those from Oregon’s beautiful rural regions and the BIPOC community, including but not limited to Latina/Latino, Asian American, and Pacific Islanders.
Canoes have always been integral to our region’s Indigenous cultures and they still are today. That’s the focus of a new film collaboration between Confluence and Tule Films. Stories from the Canoe is the new documentary short by filmmaker Woodrow Hunt (Klamath/Modoc/Cherokee). It explores the history and ongoing development of Canoe Journey. NW Documentary also contributed to the project. This week, Tribal Canoe Families gathered to celebrate the release of the new film at a screening in collaboration with PAM CUT and the Portland Art Museum.
