Catalyst Film Collective‘s screenplay competition gives members a chance to win a production grant, support from our collective, in-kind donations, and an Executive Producer. All applicants receive feedback from a panel of professional screenwriters.

Script to Screen Grant Opens for Submissions on Feb. 3

Catalyst Film Collective has announced their Script to Screen Grant Program which will be open for submission starting February 3, 2024.

This grant will provide:

  • $10,000 to make your film.
  • Massive production and outreach support from our filmmaking collective.
  • Valuable in-kind donations
  • An Executive Producer

And, even if you don’t win, every submission gets feedback from our panel of professional screenwriters.

U of O’s Mat Johnson makes a spine-chilling splash on Netflix

If you have been watching Netflix recently, you might have noticed the hit show “The Fall of the House of Usher.” The series, inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, captured 14 million viewers in just two weeks after its release this fall. And it has an Oregon connection — Mat Johnson, a professor of English and creative writing at the University of Oregon. He and director Mike Flanagan together wrote the script of the episode called “The Black Cat.”

Women in Film PDX Announce Vision Grant Winners

Women In Film Portland (WIF-PDX) recently announced that local filmmakers Fran Bittakis and Betty Alcaraz are the recipients of the WIF-PDX 2023 Vision Grant, a signature program that supports production of a film by a local female or nonbinary storyteller every year. Over four dozen people applied for the 2023 funds. A committee made up of WIF-PDX board members and two award winning filmmakers, Alicia J. Top Secret Club Wrap Party & Awards

Over the past six weeks five panelists composed of professional writers/filmmakers/actors have read and scored all of the 2023 Top Secret Club scripts.

We are excited to say that the winners of the 1k grants made possible through the Creative Opportunity Program have been selected and we are excited to announce them on Monday November 13th at Desert Island Studios!

Top Secret Club – Live Script Readings October 19

Join us Thursday, October 19th from 6 PM to 10 PM at Desert Island Studios, 1316 SE 12th Ave. Portland. As always, the evening will feature live table reads of a cut from each script, plus a facilitated feedback session, drinks/snacks, and networking.

PassinArt Theatre: Pacific Northwest Multi Cultural Readers Series & Film Festival

PassinArt Theatre is having their second biennial Pacific Northwest Multicultural Readers Series & Film Festival Thursday – Sunday, August 17-20, 2023 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Portland, Oregon.

The festival will be a jam-packed, four-day whirlwind of wall-to-wall readings, screenings, masterclasses and panel discussions addressing the issues of the day as they shape theaters of color, television, and film.

Top Secret Club – Script Reading Event Returns June 29

Top Secret Club is a bimonthly script development and networking event for the film and theatre community that hosts table reads in front of a live audience with local actors, screenwriters, and playwrights. The table reads are followed by a facilitated feedback session, and a community social hour.

6 PM – 9 PM at 1316 SE 12th Avenue. Free to attend!

Top Secret Club Script Workshop Returns on April 29

The next Top Secret Club script reading event is coming up Saturday April 29th at 2 PM featuring the work of playwright/actor/director Francisco Garcia and actor/writer/producer Julia Morizawa.
