Apply for a Community Storytelling Fellowship by October 1.
Applications are currently open for Oregon Humanities’ 2025 Community Storytelling Fellowship. This fellowship is awarded annually to Oregonians who want to tell stories about communities that are underrepresented in Oregon media. Each fellow receives $5,000 to support the creation of true stories—including journalism, creative nonfiction, comics, video, audio, photography, and other media—about those communities.
Six fellowships will be awarded in 2025. Three fellowships will be reserved for storytellers living in rural communities.

If you have been watching Netflix recently, you might have noticed the hit show “The Fall of the House of Usher.” The series, inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, captured 14 million viewers in just two weeks after its release this fall. And it has an Oregon connection — Mat Johnson, a professor of English and creative writing at the University of Oregon. He and director Mike Flanagan together wrote the script of the episode called “The Black Cat.”

Women In Film Portland (WIF-PDX) recently announced that local filmmakers Fran Bittakis and Betty Alcaraz are the recipients of the WIF-PDX 2023 Vision Grant, a signature program that supports production of a film by a local female or nonbinary storyteller every year. Over four dozen people applied for the 2023 funds. A committee made up of WIF-PDX board members and two award winning filmmakers, Alicia J.
