New Thriller “Compound Fracture” Screening at the Hollywood Theatre May 26th

One Night Only (May 26th) Limited Screening of New Thriller COMPOUND FRACTURE with Actor/Producer Tyler Mane (Sabretooth, Michael Myers) in Attendance.

Tyler Mane will personally screen his new film, Compound Fracture, May 26th in Portland, OR at the Hollywood Theatre. This will be one of the“one night only” stops on the Limited Meet & Greet Screening tour in the U.S. and Canada.

Mane, known primarily for his acting career (his credits include, Michael Meyers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween & Halloween II, Troy, The Scorpion King, Joe Dirt, X-Men), co-wrote, produced and co-stars in this new supernatural thriller.

Media Coverage of Industry Day 2013

Next VFX/PDX Meeting – ILM & LAIKA! Sat., May 25th

The Digits is Now Available in PBS LearningMedia

Portland Oregon, May 7, 2013 . . . Portland-based web series “The Digits” has recently joined forces with education icon PBS to offer educators a free teacher-tested math resource for their elementary school students. Created by Scotty Iseri, The Digits will be part of PBS LearningMedia beginning mid-April 2013 and will offer teachers ten appisodes (web episode that’s also available as an app) of The Digits.

“I have been watching PBS from before I can remember so you can imagine how proud I am that PBS has acknowledged the educational value of The Digits,” said Iseri.

Women’s Vision Grant – Accepting Applications

The 2013 Women’s Vision Grant is accepting applications through July 31st.

The Women’s Vision Grant provides financial support to women creating media in Oregon and SW Washington (Clark County.) This project-based grant aids in a current production, while fostering the artist’s professional and personal development. The grant is offered annually through Women in Film, Portland (WIF-PDX.)  Originally entitled The Faerie Godmother Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, founded in 2005 by Vikki Mee, the grant became the Faerie Godmother Production Grant through Women in Film, Portland, and is now the Women’s Vision Grant.

Taught by food stylist Dolores Custer

The art of preparing food for the camera.

Topics: Selecting and working with different foods (which ones work, which ones don’t); learn to produce steam on demand, a chilled beverage with a splash, cheese melting over a hamburger, grill marks on meats, the perfect dollop, and much more; propping; working as a team with the cinematographer; working on location under minimum conditions; try out techniques and shoot them with basic cameras; last class is devoted to a small group project on a chosen food.

Cardboard Castle’s Kia/Iron Chef America Bumper

Earlier this year, Portland, Oregon-based motion graphics studio Cardboard Castle delivered a bumper for the Food Network’s Iron Chef America program. The spot featured a cross-promotion with the 2013 Kia Optima Limited and gave the studio a chance to work not only on the animation, but on the actual creative for the concept, including the copywriting, casting, and overall design. It is now available to view online.

Tickets for the NW Animation Festival On Sale Now

The NW Animation Fest is coming up
May 17-19 @ The Hollywood Theatre
in Portland, OR.

The NW Animation Fest is a variety show that celebrates the best new work from independent animators around the globe. This is the festival’s biggest year yet.  And with “over 150 hilarious, dramatic, strange and inspiring films” screening over the course of the 3-day event, it’s now “the biggest animation show in the USA.”  The Oregon Governor’s Office of Film & Television is proud to be sponsoring the opening night of the festival, Friday May 17.

Free Spirit Lori Lewis Returns to Portland Casting

Early last year, when Lori Lewis ran into Leverage producer Paul Bernard at a Hollywood Theater event, “He flat-out asked,” recalls Lewis, “Are you back yet?” The erstwhile casting director had to admit to her urge to return to the work she adores, promising, “Next year, after knee surgery.” This week, Oregon’s film industry welcomes Lori Lewis, plus one new knee, back into the casting scene. Lewis says, “I’m super excited to be back, and so overwhelmed by everyone’s warm embrace that I feel incredibly blessed and fortunate.”
