Bill Pullman (“Independence Day”, “While You Were Sleeping”) and Rita Wilson  (“Jingle All The Way”, “Runaway Bride”) are currently starring in “Brother In Laws” (working title) shooting in and around Klamath Falls this month and next.  Downtown Klamath Falls, a rural cabin, and Lake of Woods are some of a number of locations being used.  Line Producer, Jenny Hinkey, told NBC 2 News, that she expects at least $700,000 will be spent in the local economy.  Hinkey said, “In a very brief amount of time we can have a have a great impact on an area, and it’s a lot of fun for the community”. Stop-Motion Series in Eastern Oregon Needs Your Help

Hak and Gnasher Poster

Chuck Peters, a small town filmmaker and LEGO stop-motion animator has launched his Kickstarter campaign for his latest project Hak and Gnasher.  The campaign’s aim is to raise $1350.00 for acquiring the necessary LEGO bricks, animation software, and a DSLR camera to allow him to produce his web series Hak and Gnasher in house.  The campaign is over half over, with only 25 days left, and he has raised 67% of the goal so far.

Boinx Software, developer of the popular stop-motion animation apps iStopMotion for iPad and iStopMotion for Mac, recently published a story to their blog to help raise awareness for the Hak & Gnasher Kickstarter campaign. Continue reading... “Stop-Motion Series in Eastern Oregon Needs Your Help”

Welcome To PixAir!

mockup3

When Perry sent me an email letting me know that he had purchased a jet airliner mock up I knew I had to go check it out.  While one or two options for filming in an airliner exist, none present an option that is logistically straight forward and simple.  Shooting inside a real plane is of course the most realistic but the process is complex.  Everything, including all crew and equipment, must pass through security and the crew is matched up with TSA agents inside and outside on the tarmac. OSF Costume Inventory: a Great Asset for Film & TV Projects Everywhere

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (Ashland, southern Oregon) is well known for it’s high caliber theatre performances.  Lesser know is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Costume Rentals.  OSFCR is a full-service costume rental facility that features around 100,000 costumer pieces designed and made in-house.  OSFCR has been renting costumes since 2004 but only started renting to the film and TV market for the past 6 years.  They have been successful, with many repeat customers, from primetime shows on NBC, ABC, HBO, TNT, as well as many feature films.  Continue reading... “OSF Costume Inventory: a Great Asset for Film & TV Projects Everywhere”

Considering Switching to LEDs For Your (Green) Production Lighting Needs?

Right here in Oregon, tucked away in Hillsboro since 2007, is one of the leading manufacturers of intelligent LED lighting instruments for the film and video production industry.  Meet Zylight LLC, they build “easy-to-use LED lighting systems based on state-of-the-art technologies, producing fully calibrated bright white light, as well as any color – forever eliminating gels.”  Zylight was formed in 2004 to bring “new levels of efficiency, flexibility, and creativity to the realm of film and video lighting”.

It is gratifying seeing more and more suppliers switching to LED’s as it’s about as green as it gets when it comes to lighting. Continue reading... “Considering Switching to LEDs For Your (Green) Production Lighting Needs?”

Green Happenings – Walking The Green Talk

Last week I attended the Go Green Portland conference with such speakers as Cylvia Hayes, the founder and CEO of 3EStrategies, (a clean economy consulting firm) and partner of Gov. John Kitzhaber; Duncan Wyse, president of the Oregon Business Council; Carol Sanford, author of “The Responsible Business” and Nick Barham of Weiden and Kennedy.   It seemed that they had a common theme; many valuable and interesting businesses are blossoming here in the Pacific Northwest and much useful work is underway but there is much yet be done.  Continue reading... “Green Happenings – Walking The Green Talk”

Oregon Vendor Spotlight: Koerner Camera Systems

http://vimeo.com/49393634

For our next video in the Oregon Film Summer Interns’ “Oregon Vendor Spotlight” series (above) we visited Koerner Camera Systems in Portland.

Koerner Camera Systems provides cameras and equipment to many film and television productions in Oregon.  Thanks to increased business from shows such as  “Grimm” and “Leverage,” Koerner is now the largest camera supplier in the northwest.  Thanks to the infrastructure they have created, other productions in the state now have access to cutting edge technology and equipment.

You can view the first three videos in the series here: “Shop Adorn” , “Local Nursery Supply Chain” and “PG&L and Bend Oregon’s ATI”.   Continue reading... “Oregon Vendor Spotlight: Koerner Camera Systems”

Oregon Vendor Spotlight: PG&L and Bend Oregon’s ATI

http://vimeo.com/49341835

The third installment of our Oregon Film Summer Interns’ “Oregon Vendor Spotlight” series (above) features local businesses Pacific Grip & Lighting and Autonomy Technology Inc. (ATI).

A boost in production work and employees are the results both Pacific Grip and Lighting (Portland, OR) and ATI (Bend, OR) have noticed from the consistency of the work being filmed in Oregon. The interconnectedness of numerous grip and lighting companies is expected, but less obvious is the far-reaching economic impact as we follow the chain of supply.

Oregon Film Interns Spotlight Local Vendors

It’s been a busy summer for us interns at Oregon Film compared to what most people our age are doing right now: swimming, camping, and vacationing in general. As much as we’d like to take time off and just relax or sleep the summer away, we’ve been filming videos all summer long, working hard to show the people of Oregon, and the legislature, how the film industry has quietly and stealthily been successful both in-front of and behind the cameras.
