We blogged recently about the “I Will If You Will” challenge campaign that the World Wildlife Fund and Earth Hour created. It was a way for them to encourage conversation and positive action for the environment. Many high profile companies and individuals around the world created their own challenges, including Cylvia Hayes, Oregon’s First Lady. Ms. Hayes agreed to be made-up into a “Wesen” monster (by the special effects make-up artists from the NBC Universal show, “Grimm”) if one thousand people agreed to take a stand against the haunting of the “phantom load” in homes and offices everywhere, by unplugging unused electronics! Hopefully, wherever you are, you will be in the dark on Saturday, 23rd March, between the hour of 8.30 and 9.30PM! Join many from around the world and turn off your lights in honor of The World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour 2013.
At Oregon Film & Television’sAnnual Meeting last night, we were able to honor some amazing Film Advocates who have been integral to the film and television industry.
Steve Oster (Producer, “Grimm“) announced the Film Advocate Awards that were presented to Derrick Roberson,Sergeant Erin Smith, and Sergeant Peter Simpson by Governor Kitzhaber.
With very little fanfare the cast and crew of the NBC series “Grimm” spent their weekend working two shifts at two different locations of the Oregon Food Bank packaging 24,139 pounds of food resulting in 15,259 meals for Oregonians in need. The effort was largely organized by local film workers Bruce Lawson and Dawnn Pavlonnis, but in total there were over 30 volunteers representing members of IATSE, SAG/AFTRA, DGA, and the Teamsters looking to give a little back to the community. Today we bring your the final video (above) in our Summer Interns’ “Oregon Vendor Spotlight” video series. Today’s video features local restaurant, Acapulco’s Gold.
When a film or television show comes to town, many restaurants in the vicinity of the production see an immediate increase in business. Acapulco’s Gold, located near the NW Portland set of NBC’s “Grimm,” is no exception. After a long, strenuous day of filming, crew members often head to Acapulco’s Gold to kick back and relax in their friendly, one of a kind atmosphere.
This week we bring you the final two videos of our Summer Interns’ “Oregon Vendor Spotlight” video series. In today’s video (above), the Interns visit the Portland family owned City Liquidators.
What at first appeared to be a common furniture store has become a unique, one-stop shop for film and television productions looking to buy props and other items in the Portland area. City Liquidators, family owned and operated by the Pelett family, has seen a recent boost in business thanks to the film industry in Oregon.
For the next video of the series (above), the Oregon Film Summer Interns talk to both Bent Image Lab and Hive-FX about their recent animation and visual effects (VFX) work.
With the consistent production of successful animation and VFX work in Portland, Bent Image Lab and Hive-FX are among the most active and respected animation/VFX companies in the state. They define the talent in Oregon, and set the bar high. With high-profile clientele and big-contract work, both companies have earned impressive international reputations.
Earlier in the day we sang the praises of the two Emmy Nominations for “Portlandia” and the three Emmy Nominations for Weiden + Kennedy. We failed to recognize the fact that “Grimm” was nominated in the Outstanding Stunt Coordination category. Stunt Coordinator was recognized for his work on the episode “The Woman in Black”. Congrats Matt and best of luck in September! Continue reading... ““Grimm” Nominated for Outstanding Stunt Coordination Emmy”
With the large number of artisanal culinary talent in Oregon, it was no surprise that we were able to find an amazing local cake designer to create a masterpiece for the Grimm, Season 2 celebratory kick off press conference event. The storybook cake was made by hand from the local designer, Wrightberry’s Cakes & Cupcakes in Oregon City.
