PassinArt Theatre is having their second biennial Pacific Northwest Multicultural Readers Series & Film Festival Thursday – Sunday, August 17-20, 2023 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Portland, Oregon.
The festival will be a jam-packed, four-day whirlwind of wall-to-wall readings, screenings, masterclasses and panel discussions addressing the issues of the day as they shape theaters of color, television, and film.

Prior to the start of TV/Theatrical/Streaming negotiations, SAG-AFTRA made the decision to allow producers, who may otherwise fall within the scope of the strike order, to apply for an Interim Agreement. These Agreements are for projects that have been confirmed to be separate from the AMPTP and entirely independent.
The Interim Agreement is not a waiver. It is a contract that includes all terms and conditions for producers looking to employ SAG-AFTRA members on their specific independent productions.
The Portland Film Office, in partnership with Travel Portland, has announced the recipients of its 2023 Portland Post-Production Grant Program. Selected from a pool of 32 applicants, four local filmmakers will receive $7,500 each for their respective projects.
The grant program is intended to support the professional development of local Portland filmmakers by providing funds for such activities as sound, picture editing, color matching, color grading, closed caption, tech specs for distributors, and music clearances using local post-production houses.
A program designed to enable mid-career and emerging artists working in film, audio storytelling, immersive realities, performance, animation, etc, the opportunity to develop or continue working upon a new project utilizing resources available to them through PAM CUT including classroom space, gear, marketing, professional support, and an opportunity for exhibition.
Each residency lasts for 3 months and the artist will receive a $2500 stipend.

Sometime in 2016 I spoke to a group of confidants about making a movie on the sly. The plan was to keep expectations low and develop something we could be proud of but not, per se, something that should or would be released. I was at a pretty low place at the time, honestly. May 20, 2019 PORTLAND, ORE – Animation studio HouseSpecial has signed Director John Robson to its in-House director roster. Robson brings a digitally-rich portfolio that includes the Vimeo Staff Pick CG short Quality Time and memorable content for brands including Xbox One X, Nike, IBM, Apple, Gnarls Barkley and Campbell’s Soup. A Southern California native, Robson refined his accomplished narrative sensibilities in Los Angeles at studios such as Blind, ManvsMachine, Brand New School and Motion Theory.
“In 2015, the animation production house, ShadowMachine, opened a satellite studio in Portland. Since then, they’ve produced multiple projects. My name is Steve West and I am new to “The Confluence” but not new to making film in Oregon. I am located in La Grande and for the last fourteen years we have produced episodic adventure based outdoor television for The Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, and other networks. However in the last two years we have started a more well rounded media house with documentary projects, commercials, and producing television for other people and companies.
