Athena’s Gem Theatre – Getting A New Lease Of Life

KPTV – FOX 12

The community of Athena come together to form a volunteer work party to restore theri town theatre.

The Gem Theatre is located in Athena—a small, community surrounded by wheat fields in the northeast corner of Oregon. The theatre showed its first “moving pictures” in 1909 and closed in 1968. Four decades of decay followed—an all too common tale of theatres lost forever. But, in the case of the Gem, a handful of determined volunteers intervened beginning in 2004. Spotlight On Location Professional – Katie Rasmussen

As a Location Manager based in Oregon, I spend my free time looking for undiscovered vistas, waterfalls, scenic outlooks, and beautiful landscapes. Oregon truly captures the imagination of all people who come here to visit. One of the most common things I hear is that “it’s so green here!” Our tiny corner of the United States is one that has inspired storytellers and artists for years.

My job is to help the Director find their vision within the Oregon landscape. Continue reading... “Spotlight On Location Professional – Katie Rasmussen”

From Oregon to L.A. and back again | BLACKSTAR WARRIOR

I thought one could only make film in Hollywood. Then, I made a short in Portland and it changed my life.

Our stars Mindy Machen and Leonard Roberts in the cockpit of the Blackstar built by production designer Jubal Nance and art director Rob Taylor.

Los Angeles was the place I flew down to for meetings between long walks on beaches that felt hotter than the surface of the sun. Everything about L.A. felt like the polar opposite of Portland, the place where I had lived and worked as a comic book artist for years, first for Dark Horse and then for Marvel & DC, all the while coming up with ideas for film and television, ideas that made me feel excited not just as a creator but as a viewer. Oregon Film – A “Who We Are & What We Do” Update

This time last year we tried to give some context and background to the work of our office in a post we shared called, “Who We Are & What We Do.” This year, we’d like to add to that.

So, first things first.

Founded as a program of The Charitable Partnership Fund, a 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation, the OMCF, along with Travel Oregon, Danner Boots, the Portland Film Office at Prosper Portland and an amazing group of in-kind contributors, has now awarded the $18,500 “Outdoor Adventure Film Grant.
