The new #OregonMade Film History Mural and Poster Exhibit is located in the Portland International Airport’s south pedestrian tunnel which connects the parking garage to the terminal (underground between baggage claims 3 and 4.) It provides travelers with over 160 uninterrupted feet ofmural art and posters, representing a small collection of Oregon’s rich film hist ory. By creating this exhibit, we hope to aptly celebrate the unique and varied locations Oregon has to offer, the projects that have called Oregon home over the years, and the professional production communities that come together to make Oregon so film-friendly. In partnership with the Port of Portland, the Hollywood Theatre is opening a first-of-its-kind free microcinema at Portland International Airport today’s. The Hollywood Theatre at PDX will feature short films by Oregon filmmakers and host special events and visiting guests.Read more.

Portland animation studio HouseSpecial announces the opening screening of their latest short film Lamentation at The Hollywood Theatre @PDX, the new movie theatre in Portland’s airport (C Concourse), beginning on February 23, 2017 and running regularly through the Spring.
The short film is inspired by Portland’s own world-renowned Pink Martini’s rendition of the sorrowful Romanian ballad Până când nu te iubeam (Before I Fell in Love with You), with vocals by Storm Large. Director Kirk Kelley, Founding Partner/Creative Director of HouseSpecial, employed traditional stop-motion animation, in-camera VFX and CG elements combined with high-speed footage captured in practical environments. Created by filmmakers Patrick Gilmore & Paul North, who work with Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic documenting around the world, both above and below the water, the film ventures to change minds through laughter.

On my way down to Los Angeles this week I came upon a display at the Portland Airport focusing on the history of 3D photography and film in Oregon. You can find the exhibit at the entrance to terminal E which is the United terminal. The exhibit has display items from the past including view finders and other 3D photography items and the present including items donated by local animation/VFX company Hinge Digital and of course LAIKA.
