“Portlandia” Returns With Season 4

IFC’s Portlandia is back (February 27th) with their eagerly awaited Season 4. As in seasons past, part of the fun of Portlandia is seeing who shows up as guest stars, and Season 4 will not disappoint. Stars such as, Kirsten Dunst (Spider Man), Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live) the intriguing, Joshua Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), amongst others, even Paul Allen and some Trailbalzers make an appearance as well as “the official vehicle of the Pacific Northwest, the Subaru!

Moviemaker Magazine Awards Two Oregon Cities With Honors For “Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker 2014”!

In years gone by, Moviemaker Magazine lumped together big city and small town to compete for the sought after title of, “Best Places To Live and Work as a Moviemaker”. This year, the magazine has split their list into three components:

Top Big Cities (they define as more than 50,000 residents)
Top Small Cities (100,000)
Top Towns (under 100,000)

We are excited to see that two Oregon cities took honors in the Big City and Town categories – Portland and Ashland!

Willamette Writers is soliciting entries for the 2014 FiLMLaB Script to Screen short film scriptwriting competition. We seek writers with the ability to tell a compelling story quickly and cinematically, while adhering to a theme and a practical eye towards real-life movie production. Unique to scriptwriting contests, the Script to Screen Competition grand prize is this: we will produce a short film based on the winning script!

Oregon Shakespeare Festival Costume Rentals Moves to New Facility

New warehouse upstairs accessoy room The new Production Department Building for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Talent, OR, completed construction in late October 2013. On November 19th, OSF Costume Rentals started the monumental task of moving their stock of over 50,000 costume pieces from a rented warehouse in Ashland, OR, their home of almost ten years, six miles down the road to their brand new state of the art facility. The improvements are undeniable, going from about 8,000 square feet to just over 11,000, customized rack systems for hanging costumes, climate control, even floors, a window, the fact that the new facility isn’t a converted lumber mill (the former facility was a space in the old Parson’s Pine mill building)…

OMPA Annual Meeting: Live stream 7pm Tuesday

Oregon Media Production Association celebrates achievements of commercial, film, TV and interactive media production in Oregon at their annual meeting on Tuesday night. The meeting will be streamed live beginning at 7pm PST and running for one hour. The streaming link can be found on www.ompa.org or by searching Livestream.com.

Portland writer Lidia Yuknavitch‘s novel ‘Dora: A Headcase‘ was just

optioned by MTV director Katherine Brooks. Brooks’ credits include “The Osbournes,” “The Real World,” and the feature films“Loving Annabelle”and “Waking Madison.” ‘Dora’ is a modern retelling of Sigmund Freud’s famous case study of a young girl.

The Most Cinematic Book Trailer Ever Produced!

Producers Irl Davis and Randolph Sellars are proud to announce the upcoming release of “Polly, The Mystery of Bonney Canyon,” the highest production value book trailer ever produced. Book trailers are still relatively new as a media form. Unfortunately, the bulk of them have been made at a glaringly low production quality with cheap graphics, animated stills, and cheesy music.

“Our goal is to raise the quality bar much higher for book trailers” says Davis, who wrote and produced the project.

Fifth Annual Eastern Oregon Film Festival

Eastern Oregon Film Festival is proud to present it’s fifth edition — #EOFF2014. The festival will kick off Thursday, February 20, and run through Saturday, February 22. A decompression gathering with music, skiing, and snowboarding will take place Sunday, February 23 at Anthony Lakes Ski Resort.

The opening night short film is Bernardo Britto’s YEARBOOK, followed by Dave Carroll’s feature documentary, BENDING STEEL. A live Q&A with the filmmakers will take place after the screening. Additional selections to look for include Josh and Benny Safdie’s LENNY COOKE, Eric Steele’s BOB BIRDNOW, Steven Doughton’s BUOY, and a showcase curated byFilmmaker Magazine — which pairs Ben Sinclair and Katja Blichfeld’s QASIM with Eddie Mullins’ comical, apocalyptic DOOMSDAYS.

Hollywood Theatre Spreading the Good Word on Hope For Film

I don’t know what’s appropriate when it comes to blogging about a blog, but it was brought to my attention that the good works at the Hollywood Theatre made it on Ted Hope’s “Hope For Film” blog this week and I needed to help spread the word. Justen Harn is the Director of Programs and Community Engagement at the Hollywood Theatre and his work along with Executive Director Doug Whyte continues to push the boundaries of what it means to be a movie theatre in the 21st Century.
