Oscar and Golden Globe nominee actor Bruce Dern better known for the “Hateful 8”, and “Nebraska”is starring in the Portland produced feature length motion picture “V-Force: New Dawn Of V.I.C.T.O.R.Y.“! Based on the original screenplay by long time Lake Oswego resident D.C. Rahe, directed by Frank E Johnson (“Shannon’s Rainbow”, “Touched By An Angel”, “Palace Guard”), produced by Sean Skelding, Greg Beber, Tyler Benjamin, and D.C. Rahe of the Portland based Revolution Film Group, LLC. Greg Beber wrote the shooting script.

Congrats to “Portlandia” – Three Emmy Nominations

Screen Shot 2016-07-18 at 11.49.16 AM“Portlandia” was nominated again for Outstanding Comedy Sketch Series, and  also nominated in the Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series category, with Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, Jonathan Krisel, Graham Wagner and Karey Dornetto , and for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety, Nonfiction, Reality or Real-competition Series – with production designer Schuyler Telleen and set decorator Katherine Isom.

Also, of note, Oregon-native, Ty Burrell, received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for “Modern Family”.

OPB Music’s Latest Road Session – Mimicking Birds – Play At Thompson Mill’s Oregon State Heritage Site

The beautiful and interesting Thompson Mill’s Oregon State Heritage Site played host to the band, Mimicking Birds, in the latest OPB Music’s “Road Sessions” series.

“Thompson’s Mills is a Oregon State Heritage Site in Linn County near the town of Shedd. More than 150 years old, it’s the oldest water-powered grain mill in Oregon, where the waters of Calapooia River drive turbines you can still see running today for demonstrations.

Known for their hushed, ethereal music, Portland band Mimicking Birds play their song “Water Under Burned Bridges” at the mill, for the final video in our Road Sessions series.

30th Anniversary of Stand By Me Was Huge Success

PrintThe small town of Brownsville, Oregon celebrated the classic movie Stand By Me on Saturday July 23, 2016. In 1985 Brownsville turned into a town named Castle Rock and was teaming with film crews, actors and all the excitement of the movie making process. Today, the movie is still regarded as a favorite and is listed as one of the top 250 American films of all time. Fans travel from all around the world during the year to see for themselves where this movie was filmed.

Pickathon Camera Crew Starts July 5th!

Learn all about shooting live events as a trained cameraperson for the Pickathon Music Festival, one of the largest outdoor music festivals in the US (August 4-7).

This mentored crew experience is open to anyone with an interest in filming music, sports and other live events, from absolute beginners/novices to advanced filmmaking students. A combination class and field experience, the fun starts with four weekly instructional sessions devoted to hands-on camera operation techniques, specialized gear such as jibs, robotics, switchers and more, and how a camera crew and director work together as a creative team on location.

Roy W. Dean 2016 Summer Film Grant Accepting Submissions

Got a unique film project that contributes to society?  The Roy W. Dean Film Grant is looking to award its grant to one that fits that description.  This year’s winner receives $3,500 cash and $30,000 in donated film products and services to help complete their film.  Films can be documentaries, short films, features, TV or web series. Deadline for submission is June 30th, 2016.

In addition to the cash prize, the winner receives a 1TB G-Drive ev ATC with Thunderbolt in Watertight Rugged case from grant donor G-Technology, $1,000 in consultation, marketing material creation, design, and marketing strategizing from Smart Girl Productions.,

Historic UO Alumni Filmmakers Receive Grant To Preserve Their Work

 The National Film Preservation Foundation announced their latest group of historic films that will receive funding to preserve them for record. Among them are; the “Luther Cressman Field Work Films” (1938 – 1954), an important documentation of work done by the UO archaeologist, Luther Cressman; and a feature (1953) by UO alumnus, James Blue, that won a Critic’s prize at Cannes (1962).

Outdoor Screenings in State Parks

The first one up: Christopher Guest’s hilarious BEST IN SHOW at the Dog Park in Molalla River SP. There will be festivities and even a doggie fashion show – so bring your best friend, your own bottle and settle in for a great evening.
