#OregonMade “Shrill” Renewed For 2nd Season

Hulu has renewed ‘Shrill,’ starring Aidy Bryant, for Season 2 for eight episodes.  Based on the book by Lindy West.

The series launched this March to positive reviews (according to the Hollywood Reporter, the series currently has a 91 percent rating among critics and 80 percent score among viewers on RottenTomatoes.com.)  “Shrill” shot in and around Portland last year.

Next up in our #OregonMade Film Series at The Hollywood Theatre is the Roller Derby classic: “Kansas City Bomber.” You may recall this film being featured in our Oregon Film history series Raiders of the Lost Archive – but, either way, here’s your chance to check it out on screen. Lower Boom Launches Diversity And Inclusion Initiative

Lower Boom Diversity and Inclusion InitiativeOVERVIEW
Lower Boom is launching, today, August 1st, a diversity and inclusion initiative to create opportunities for Television and Film writers.

Lower Boom will be doing outreach and accepting writing samples throughout the month of August to select 4-6 writers who will then participate in a weekly writer’s room during September and October. Special consideration will be given to writers of color, LGBTQ, women writers, and candidates from socio-economically diverse backgrounds.

Northwest Exposure

As part of the 45th Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival, the Northwest Film Center is excited to launch the scriptwriting contest Northwest Exposure.

Short narrative script submissions (10 page max) will be accepted through August 20, 2018. 7 scripts will be selected to be read by professional actors at a table reading during the 45th Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival (Oct 31 – Nov 5). A panel of guest judges will choose the winning script, which will then be awarded a prize package made possible by the Portland film community to support the production of the winning script. Lower Boom Launches New Discovery App

Last Monday, Portland-based Lower Boom unveiled the prototype for the Lower Boom Discovery app during happy hour at Dig a Pony.

Filmmakers, many of whom have been featured in the Lower Boom Presents programming exclusively showing at the Hotel Eastlund, were able to download it and do a hands-on walk through of the functionality and design.
