This time last year we tried to give some context and background to the work of our office in a post we shared called, “Who We Are & What We Do.” This year, we’d like to add to that.

So, first things first.

In the last year we have been lucky enough to find dedicated and invested partners to tackle a whole new series of grants and workforce development opportunities through the #OregonMade Creative Foundation. Founded as a program of The Charitable Partnership Fund, a 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation, the OMCF, along with Travel Oregon, Danner Boots, the Portland Film Office at Prosper Portland and an amazing group of in-kind contributors, has now awarded the $18,500 “Outdoor Adventure Film Grant. “ParaNorman” Getting Halloween Re-Release in 3D

Laika’s beloved stop-motion film “ParaNorman” is returning to theaters this Halloween for a one-week engagement, now in a newly remastered RealD 3D format. The limited run, announced at the Annecy Animation Festival, will also feature the world premiere of a brand-new CG short film, “ParaNorman: The Thrifting,” starring Anna Kendrick and Finn Wolfhard.

Goonies Weekend Celebrates 40 Years of #OregonMade Classic

June 7 is officially “Goonies Day” in Astoria and that day will anchor an entire weekend of celebrations for the film’s 40th anniversary called “Goonies Weekend.”

“The Goonies,” produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Richard Donner, was released in 1985. For Astoria, where the film was set and where much of it was shot, Goonies-related tourism has long been touted as an important component of the local economy. Anniversary celebrations have drawn reliable out-of-town crowds ever since the 25th anniversary and Goonies merchandise sprouts up regularly at local shops. Film Tourism – What Exactly Is It & Why Do We Want It?

Over 700 filmed projects have shot in the state since 1908, these have resulted in thousands of filming locations in communities all over Oregon. Oregon Film’s non-profit, the OregonMade Creative Foundation, has been building an official state film trail since 2018, as a way to position Oregon to better take advantage of film tourism and supporting economic development in many of our communities.

Travel Oregon recently highlighted a short doc that was funded as part of the Outdoor Adventure Film Grant awarded by both Travel Oregon and Oregon Film. The film, directed by Portlander Devin Boss, highlights friends’ Oregon Coast journey to experience nature and leave anxiety behind.

Devin Boss recalls watching the waves crash against the rocks at Thor’s Well on his recent Oregon Coast road trip with friends. “It’s probably like in the top five things I’ve ever witnessed in nature,” he says of the natural attraction in Yachats, just down the path from Cape Perpetua Visitors Center. The 2022-2023 Entertainment Industry Survey revealed that workers with a disability experience discrimination more than any other population of entertainment workers. They are twice as likely to report they “often” or “very often” experience bullying, bias, and sexually harassing behaviors, compared to workers without a disability.

This training from Disability Belongs, a diverse, disability-led nonprofit that works to create systemic change in how society views and values people with disabilities, will walk organizations through building an environment of inclusion. Trainers will discuss small, easy-to-implement disability inclusion initiatives that will make production workplaces accessible to millions of people with disabilities. Dysfunctional siblings reunite to witness the cremation of their mother. Being a huge 80’s movie fan – especially “The Goonies” and “Stand By Me” – it has long been a dream of mine to take a trip to Oregon and visit the towns of Astoria and Brownsville where some of my favorite movie scenes were filmed, and this year, after a lot of planning, that dream finally came true. After a nine-and-a-half-hour flight from London to Seattle, then a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Seattle we finally arrived in Astoria and were greeted by our first Airbnb host, Judith.
