RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARCHIVE #Blockbuster&Chill: Brutal Beauty: Tales of the Rose City Rollers (Chip Mabry, 2010)

The New Year (literally) rolls in with a vengeance this week as our intrepid Raider/Contributor takes us behind the scenes of Portland’s much beloved Rose City Rollers. There’s language to be wary of below and in the film itself, so if that kind of thing isn’t your proverbial cup’o’tea then stop here; but if that doesn’t daunt you, then paste on your Cadillac tattoo, strap on your helmet, lace-up your skates and bring your best James Caan and Raquel Welch impersonations because this week, we’re embracing Brutal Beauty.

“American Vandal” Shooting In Portland Metro

Hot off the success of the first season of Netflix’s “American Vandal,” season 2 has begun shooting in the metro Portland area. This mockumentary, created by Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, will consist of another 8 episodes. The show spoofs popular true crime documentaries like Netflix’s “Making a Murderer” and “Serial” and as in season 1, season 2 will focus on soving another crime in a new high school.

R2C Group Lands LendingTree

#OregonMade R2C, Portland’s largest creative agency, (with offices in Portland, San Francisco, Providence, R.I and Philadelphia) has landed the job of media partner for the online loans company, LendingTree. The Portland Business Journal noted that AdWeek reports indicated that LendingTree had a media budget of $126.5 million in 2016. R2C will be servicing part of that budget.

R2C, founded in 1998 by Michelle Cardinal and Tim O’Leary, is a data-driven creative media agency. They will be handling media planning, buying and TV and radio analytics for LendingTree.

Final Season Of “Portlandia” Premieres On IFC January 18th

#OregonMade IFC and Broadway Videos’ “Portlandia” is almost back for its eigth and final season. 10 episodes will air every Tuesday night on IFC. Along with Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen, returning guest stars will include Jeff Goldblum, Ed Begley Jr., Natasha Lyonne, Kyle MacLachlan, and Kumail Nanjiani. Other guest stars coming to “Portlandia” include: Scott Adsit, Rachel Bloom, Aidy Bryant, musician Brendan Canty, John Corbett, Terry Crews, Dan Gregor, Cherry Jones, Rashida Jones, Andy Kindler, Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, musician Krist Novoselic, Henry Rollins, Tracee Ellis Ross, novelist Cheryl Strayed, Tessa Thompson, David Wain, Brent Weinbach, Dolly Wells, Shannon Woodward, and singer-songwriter Kurt Vile.

PRIMO: Student Miniseries Bringing The 80’s Back To Eugene

With 80s era hits such as Stranger Things and Sing Street winning praise from critics and fans alike, it is no surprise that the University of Oregon’s television network, Duck TV, picked up and produced PRIMO, an 80s feel-good miniseries following four aspiring yuppies through a night on the town.

Each episode presents a different characters’ perspective on the same night, culminating into a dramatic and fun final episode.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARCHIVE: Requiem for a Video Store

This week we make a literal visit to Sandy to say goodbye to a institution that not only changed our expectation deadlines (kind of establishing the mid-point between the “wait for it…” past and the “I want it now!” present) but also changed the world. Who recalls walking out of a Blockbuster video not just holding a stack of 4 or 5 movies (half of which you’d probably never watch) but also carrying a blue plastic encased VHS player/rental? Those were the days: tuning the TV to channel 2, making a few video tracking adjustments, and then settling in for some hi-impact-lo-resolution images on 1/2″ tape.

It’s not often The Shining meets Tony the Tiger meets The Grinch meets hipster drum solos, but this week, they all do meet up for a delicious hot cocoa and a rockin’ sing-along around the fire at a 1940’s Timberline Lodge.
