Portland’s Stillmotion Wins Emmy Award


Stillmotion
, a team of filmmakers based in Portland, Oregon, won their fourth Emmy Award at the 34th Annual Sports Emmy Award Ceremony on May 7th, 2013.

Stillmotion worked alongside CBS Sports’ Pete Radovich Jr., Stephen Karsik, and Gareth Hughes to produce the film “One Heartbeat” which garnered the award as the most Outstanding Edited Sports Special.

The winning piece tells the story of the Chardon High School shooting on February 27, 2012 in Chardon, Ohio, and how basketball helped the spirit of the community prevail through such a horrific event. Continue reading... “Portland’s Stillmotion Wins Emmy Award”

New Thriller “Compound Fracture” Screening at the Hollywood Theatre May 26th

One Night Only (May 26th) Limited Screening of New Thriller COMPOUND FRACTURE with Actor/Producer Tyler Mane (Sabretooth, Michael Myers) in Attendance.

Tyler Mane will personally screen his new film, Compound Fracture, May 26th in Portland, OR at the Hollywood Theatre. This will be one of the“one night only” stops on the Limited Meet & Greet Screening tour in the U.S. and Canada.

Mane, known primarily for his acting career (his credits include, Michael Meyers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween & Halloween II, Troy, The Scorpion King, Joe Dirt, X-Men), co-wrote, produced and co-stars in this new supernatural thriller.

Early last year, when Lori Lewis ran into Leverage producer Paul Bernard at a Hollywood Theater event, “He flat-out asked,” recalls Lewis, “Are you back yet?” The erstwhile casting director had to admit to her urge to return to the work she adores, promising, “Next year, after knee surgery.” This week, Oregon’s film industry welcomes Lori Lewis, plus one new knee, back into the casting scene. Premiere Screening of Project Viewfinder – Presented by NW Film Center

Join us for an evening of poignant short films, about the myths and realities of homelessness, created by young adults transitioning from struggle to self-sufficiency. Mentored by Northwest Film Center faculty for the last three months, the youth have worked in front of and behind the camera to tell these personal stories of struggle and hope for the future. Many of the young filmmakers will be in attendance to reflect on their experience and take questions from the audience.

Cinema Pacific & Northwest Film Center to Screen “The Burning Plain” with director Guillermo Arriaga

Director Guillermo Arriaga is returning to Oregon, where he filmed “The Burning Plain” in Portland and Coos Bay in 2008. The film featured Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence in her first starring role, alongside Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger. At the Bijou Cinemas and Northwest Film Center, Arriaga will present The Burning Plain and, only at the Bijou, the film he wrote and Tommy Lee Jones directed, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005). While in Oregon, Arriaga will also give the Bartolomé de las Casas Lecture in Latin American Studies at the UO and a public talk at the Oak Hill School. Polluted Pictures teams up with Vitamin M to produce “Deep Dark.”

PORTLAND, Oregon (April 12, 2013)  After taking the feature film “Cell Count” to film festivals all over the world in 2012 and seeing the film through to distribution, it is now Polluted Pictures profound pleasure to announce they will co-produce the feature film “Deep Dark” together with Vitamin M in the Summer ’13.

AIFF Hosts Successful eMerge Transmedia Showcase

This past weekend the 2013 Ashland Independent Film Festival (AIFF) hosted its first eMerge Tansmedia Showcase (sponsored by Oregon Film, Intel, SOU, Project A, Second Story, PIE, and Technology Association of Oregon).  In simplest terms, it was an opportunity for festival goers to discuss, experience and participate in the future of storytelling.  As technology continues to evolve, the ways in which stories can be told are evolving with it.  The lines between technology, film, photography, music, performance art, graphic arts, and gaming are becoming less and less visible.  Continue reading... “AIFF Hosts Successful eMerge Transmedia Showcase”

Whether you are an experienced filmmaker or just waiting to make a splash, now is the time to dive in. FUNDAMENTAL & INTENSIVE SCREENWRITING, DIGITAL EDITING, and SOUND DESIGN & EDITING are only a few of the alluring spring classes at the Film Center.

 

DIGITAL EDITING I examines the various styles and techniques of editing using Avid Media Composer. Students will organize footage, add sound effects, and give a voice to their projects.
