POWGirls Announces Three Workshops For Spring And Summer 2019


The Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival is excited to announce the POWGirls workshops for spring and summer of 2019.
The POWGirls Media Education Program launched in March of 2014 and has hosted thirteen successful workshops, producing 19 films and serving over 100 girls and non-binary youth in the Portland metro area.

Our mission is to help girls and non-binary youth, 15-19, realize their power, creativity and voice in media production and encourage them to explore opportunities as future media-makers. We want to encourage participants to be creative, tech-savvy leaders who will help realize gender equity in media industries. Emmy Award winner, Visual Effects Supervisor Juri Stanossek to attend screening of JIM BUTTON AND LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER

Emmy Award winner, Visual Effects Supervisor Juri Stanossek will attend the screening of JIM BUTTON AND LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER on Sunday Oct. 7, 218 @ 3.00 PM at CINEMA 21. Following the screening will be a presentation about VFX by Juri Stanossek followed by a Q&A.

Juri Stanossek started his career in 1994. Since then he’s supervised more than 40 movies for TV and cinema. He acted as Visual Effects Supervisor at Elektrofilm from 2004 to 2008 and then moved forward to Pixomondo Stuttgart, where he supervised international productions like “Ghostwriter” (2010), “Hugo Cabret” (2011) , “Game of Thrones” (2012) and “Rush” (2013).

Once again local filmmaker, producer, and DP Scott Ballard brings his directing expertise to students, community members, and emerging filmmakers at the Northwest Film Center for an intensive studio class on Film Directing. Over five consecutive days, participants will shoot and direct a scene(s) with professional actors and a small crew. POWGirls Announces Summer 2018 Workshops

POWGirls offers workshops in video production, cinematography, audio recording, set lighting, digital editing and media literacy for girls and non-binary youth ages 15-19. Our instructors are working media producers who inspire participants to be creative, tech-savvy leaders who will help realize gender equity in the film industry. All films produced during POWGirls workshops are screened at the Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (POW Film Fest).

Selected Films From The Minor Cinemas Of Oregon@Siren Theater, May 5, 2:00 PM

On Saturday May 5, at 2:00 PM at the enchanting Siren Theater, 315 NW Davis, archivists Elizabeth Peterson, Libby Burke, and Dennis Nyback will present a screening of selected films from the minor cinemas of Oregon.

Elizabeth Peterson will screen LUTHER METKE AT 94 (1979), directed by Jorge Preloren & Steve Raymen. 27 min, color, shot on 16mm.

The lives of a sorority girl, a star athlete, an activist, and a low income student intersect at a college party that determines their true identities.

Synopsis:

Droplets is a story about racism, sexuality, mental health, and human rights. It depicts the lives of four college students: Daphne, Gerard, Leo, and Michael. These students all struggle with their identity in a far from perfect world.

Over the course of the last year, Portland State University Television (PSUTV) has been creating a feature film: Karen Doesn’t Dream.

This psychological drama follows Karen, a 27 year-old porn store employee and Seaside resident. Karen’s job has always been dreary and monotonous, serving the tourists and tenants of Seaside. But that was before she found the sleep tapes… To what extent will Karen feed a growing addiction, and what will this addiction bring out of her?
