Creative Opportunity Program Launches for 2022-23

Last legislative session a bill passed that allowed Oregon Film to allocate funds to a program called the “Creative Opportunity Program.” This program dedicates up to $375,000 per year to creative projects, producers and programs around the state. These programs include the continuation of existing programs like the Pathways job training and placement program, the Outdoor Adventure Film Grant, the Tell Your Story Grant and partnership programs like CINE/SEEN and Creatives of Color Networking events (OMPA) and the BIPOC Filmmaker Grant (BendFilm). “The Road” is the Next #OregonMade Screening at The Hollywood Theatre

On Monday October 24, 2022, Viggo Mortensen walks the titular path with son Kodi Smit McPhee trying escape fires, famine, road warriors, cannibals and the memory of Charlize Theron in this post-apocalyptic road movie adapted from the Cormac McCarthy Novel as part of the #OregonMade Film Series at the Hollywood Theatre.

John Hillcoat directs the long trek of “the good guys” that takes in parts of Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Mount St. Helens and the Columbia River Gorge culminating on the Oregon coast at the moody wreck of the Peter Iredale at Ft. “Mean Creek” in 35mm with Filmmaker Q&A

Next up at our #OregonMade Film Series at The Hollywood Theatre is Spirit Award winning “Mean Creek.” The screening is August 17 at 730p. Writer/Director Jacob Estes and Producer Susan Johnson will be in attendance for a Q+A after the film and we will be screening their personal 35mm print. This screening is free to all Hollywood Theatre members.

Outdoor Movies in Oregon State Parks is Back

Since 2016, the Hollywood Theatre has partnered with the Oregon State Parks Department and Oregon Film to produce a series of outdoor screenings. This year, we’re celebrating 100 years of Oregon State Parks with four special screenings honoring the past, present, and future. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the 100th anniversary of Oregon State Parks! Follow the fun online with #oregonstateparks100.

This year’s line up includes: Jurassic Park, Mars Attacks!, Back to the Future Part II and Encanto.

#OregonMade The Archaeology Channel International Film Festival

Film screenings for the nineteenth annual edition of TAC International Film Festival, Lane County’s longest running film festival, will take place May 12-15, 2022, at The Shedd Institute in Eugene, Oregon. Having received 77 entries from 21 countries, we believe that this year’s selections are some of the best films in the world for the cultural heritage genre. #OregonMade Film Series at The Hollywood Theatre: “Zero Effect”

Bill Pullman plays Daryl Zero, the self-described “greatest private investigator in the world,” with Ben Stiller as his lawyer side-kick trying to keep up with paramedic Kim Dickens. Portland plays a prominent role in this 1990’s caper centered around Timber Baron Ryan O’Neal having “lost his keys” and worrying about the contents of a safe deposit box. OAFG21 Winner – Short Film, “You Go Girl!” To Screen At Sundance

“You Go Girl” – the fourth annual Outdoor Adventure Film Grant– “Oregon’s Outdoors Are For Everyone” winner (OAFG21) – will be screening at Sundance! Filmmakers,  Shariffa Ali, Kamilah Long, Courtney Williams, and Adrian Aleas’ short film tells the story of Audrey, a New York City comedian who can make a joke of any situation, faces a staggering challenge in the beautiful mountains of Oregon.

Outside the Frame: Riders in the Storm

Outside the Frame hosts a screening of new films from their members – good films about a bad year by homeless and marginalized youth – at the Hollywood Theatre on September 30.

This screening features a variety of short films: music videos about the Movement for Black Lives featuring Mic Crenshaw and the Oregon Symphony, documentaries about grassroots, government, and healthcare efforts during COVID, and more.
