The October Oregon Production Investment Fund Auction is now open.  This time the total amount of tax credits to be auctioned will be $4,000,000.  The process will be exactly like the successful auction conducted in July.  It’s important to know that there is only time for one more OPIF auction this year so we will be working hard to make sure all $4,000,000 sells out in the designated time frame.

Director Guillermo Arriaga is returning to Oregon, where he filmed “The Burning Plain” in Portland and Coos Bay in 2008. The film featured Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence in her first starring role, alongside Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger. At the Bijou Cinemas and Northwest Film Center, Arriaga will present The Burning Plain and, only at the Bijou, the film he wrote and Tommy Lee Jones directed, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005). While in Oregon, Arriaga will also give the Bartolomé de las Casas Lecture in Latin American Studies at the UO and a public talk at the Oak Hill School. Whether you are an experienced filmmaker or just waiting to make a splash, now is the time to dive in. FUNDAMENTAL & INTENSIVE SCREENWRITING, DIGITAL EDITING, and SOUND DESIGN & EDITING are only a few of the alluring spring classes at the Film Center.

 

DIGITAL EDITING I examines the various styles and techniques of editing using Avid Media Composer. Students will organize footage, add sound effects, and give a voice to their projects. We were truly blown away by the amount of people that showed up on Tuesday and honestly not prepared for the possibility of filling the theater.  I hear we had to turn away nearly a hundred people in Portland.  Luckily the team that provided the video services for the night at PSU (thank you Brian) recorded the event.  We did not have permission to provide all the clips that were shown Tuesday night but if you want to hear what everyone had to say watch it here on Vimeo. We’re getting lots of interest in the annual meeting and for good reason!  It’s going to be a great night!  You’re going to want to get there early.  Doors to the theater open at 5:30PM and as you are entering the theater, be sure to check out the awesome installation from Second Story Interactive Studios.  Second Story is this year’s recipient of our “Innovation In Media Arts Award” so we’re thrilled to have them show off their work.
