Oregon industry members celebrate the launch of their 2014 production directory.

To help studios and producers stay on top of crew and resources and to promote Oregon’s unique production advantages, the trade group Oregon Media Production Association (OMPA) has released the 2014 SourceOregon, a directory of the professional crew, talent, vendors and support services that make up Oregon’s bustling industry. Industry parties in Portland, Eugene, and Ashland are scheduled in April to celebrate the directory’s launch. Moviemaker Magazine Awards Two Oregon Cities With Honors For “Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker 2014”!

In years gone by, Moviemaker Magazine lumped together big city and small town to compete for the sought after title of, “Best Places To Live and Work as a Moviemaker”.  This year, the magazine has split their list into three components:

  • Top Big Cities (they define as more than 50,000 residents)
  • Top Small Cities (100,000)
  • Top Towns (under 100,000)

Oregon Shakespeare Festival Costume Rentals Moves to New Facility

New warehouse upstairs accessoy roomThe new Production Department Building for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Talent, OR, completed construction in late October 2013. On November 19th, OSF Costume Rentals started the monumental task of moving their stock of over 50,000 costume pieces from a rented warehouse in Ashland, OR, their home of almost ten years, six miles down the road to their brand new state of the art facility. The improvements are undeniable, going from about 8,000 square feet to just over 11,000, customized rack systems for hanging costumes, climate control, even floors, a window, the fact that the new facility isn’t a converted lumber mill (the former facility was a space in the old Parson’s Pine mill building)… Continue reading... “Oregon Shakespeare Festival Costume Rentals Moves to New Facility”

SOFaT Announces New Board

Southern Oregon Film and Television (SOFaT), Southern Oregon’s media industry trade association, introduced its new board last night at their 2013 Wrap Celebration held at the SOU Digital Media Center in Ashland. Members of the organization were joined by prominent members of local government and business to celebrate a very successful year in film and media production in the region, which included a very high-profile day of shooting for the Reese Witherspoon film WILD.

SOFaT is entering 2014 with a very strong outlook and a renewed approach to marketing Southern Oregon as a filmmaking destination, and installing a new board is a big part of that plan. Continue reading... “SOFaT Announces New Board”

“Wild” Has Been Attracting Public Interest As Well As Local And National Press

“Wild” Set to Film Throughout Oregon in October

Film stars Reese Witherspoon with Jean-Marc Valée directing

A few months back it was announced that Portland based author Cheryl Strayed’s successful memoir “Wild” was being made into a feature film with Fox Searchlight producing and distributing the film.  Reese Witherspoon’s company Pacific Standard originally optioned the theatrical rights.  Acclaimed director Jean-Marc Vallée (recently directed “Dallas Buyers Club) is directing.  Now with just a few weeks to go before principal photography, it appears that the film will cover more parts of Oregon than any other project of recent memory. New Film Fest to Kick Off OSF’s Daedalus Project

The Daedalus Project, The Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s annual fundraiser to end the spread of HIV/AIDS, is thrilled to launch its first-ever film festival on August 16-18 at The Varsity Theatre on Main Street in Ashland.

The Daedalus Film Fest, produced in partnership with the Ashland Independent Film Festival and Coming Attractions Theatres, includes a slate of 5 bold, original, award-winning documentaries about the ongoing global HIV/AIDS crisis.

OSF Costume Inventory: a Great Asset for Film & TV Projects Everywhere

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (Ashland, southern Oregon) is well known for it’s high caliber theatre performances.  Lesser know is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Costume Rentals.  OSFCR is a full-service costume rental facility that features around 100,000 costumer pieces designed and made in-house.  OSFCR has been renting costumes since 2004 but only started renting to the film and TV market for the past 6 years.  They have been successful, with many repeat customers, from primetime shows on NBC, ABC, HBO, TNT, as well as many feature films.  Continue reading... “OSF Costume Inventory: a Great Asset for Film & TV Projects Everywhere”

AIFF Hosts Successful eMerge Transmedia Showcase

This past weekend the 2013 Ashland Independent Film Festival (AIFF) hosted its first eMerge Tansmedia Showcase (sponsored by Oregon Film, Intel, SOU, Project A, Second Story, PIE, and Technology Association of Oregon).  In simplest terms, it was an opportunity for festival goers to discuss, experience and participate in the future of storytelling.  As technology continues to evolve, the ways in which stories can be told are evolving with it.  The lines between technology, film, photography, music, performance art, graphic arts, and gaming are becoming less and less visible.  Continue reading... “AIFF Hosts Successful eMerge Transmedia Showcase”
