Besetment”, an indie-produced feature film from Barbed Wire Films, will have it’s first public premiere on Sunday October 30th at the Volcanic Theater Pub in Bend, OR at 6pm.

Filmed in Mitchell, Prineville, Ashland, and Bend, OR, the film tells the tale of Amanda Millard, a down-on-her-luck girl, desperate to find a job.  When she gets a call from the Oregon Hotel in Mitchell, things start to look up. Mildred Colvin, the owner of the Oregon Hotel is a kind lady, and her live-in son and local mechanic Billy, though a little slow, seems quite taken with Amanda. AIFF Hires New Executive Director

The Ashland Independent Film Festival has selected the former Executive Director of the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival to its top job. Steven Remington of Moscow, Idaho will succeed Cathy Dombi as the festival’s new executive director.
Maylee Oddo, president of the AIFF board, described Remington as “intelligent, dynamic and resourceful, with proven successes in his field. Steven brings over 20 years of festival and arts administration experience to AIFF, offering a deep background in non-profit management, past fundraising successes, strength with budgets, an ability to connect with individuals in a meaningful way that demonstrates his strategic thinking, clear communication

#OregonMadeShows Exibit

In collaboration with PDXART, and many other partners (please see list below) a new exhibit is up on Concourse E, at the Portland International Airport this week.  The exhibit showcases “vignettes” of artifacts, props and images from just a few of the 400+ feature films & television shows that have utilized Oregon as their production backdrop over the years.  From the early silent era films like “Fisherman’s Bride” (shot in Astoria, 1908), to “Grimm”, the popular NBC television series currently shooting in Portland, Oregon has played an important role in production. Catherine E. Coulson Dies At 71

Coulson_Catherine_color_2012Catherine E. Coulson passed away at her home in Ashland on Monday.Coulson has spent 22 seasons acting in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, but perhaps she is best known as the “log lady” in David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks”. “Seven Wonders” Campaign + Film Tourism – Has Affected Increased Visitors To Oregon

The love for the beauty and magnificence of Oregon as a destination continues – this week the New York Times travel section reported that Travel Oregon’s “Seven Wonders” campaign (Wieden + Kennedy), coupled with the “Wild” movie locations tie-in, increased Oregon’s tourism “by nearly 10 percent growth in statewide lodging revenue in 2014 over 2013, an increase of more than 120,000 social media followers, and a record number of unique visitors to its website”.*  Travel Oregon partnered with Oregon Film on three distinct aspects of the “Wild” journey;

  1. the Los Angeles  premiere,
  2. the five screenings around the state, and
  3. the Fox Searchlight prize promotion (that promoted the movie’s release, as well as put a nationwide, and international spotlight on the state).
