In collaboration with PDXART, and many other partners (please see list below) a new exhibit is up on Concourse E, at the Portland International Airport this week. The exhibit showcases “vignettes” of artifacts, props and images from just a few of the 400+ feature films & television shows that have utilized Oregon as their production backdrop over the years. From the early silent era films like “Fisherman’s Bride” (shot in Astoria, 1908), to “Grimm”, the popular NBC television series currently shooting in Portland, Oregon has played an important role in production. Local Portland Prop Master, Tim Oakley, gets a well-deserved spread in AboutFace Magazine’s summer issue as a featured artist this month. Oakley (Oakley Design Studios) designs and creates intricate props, logos and set designs for features, TV and commercials. Most recently Oakley has created some of the iconic props for local Oregon shows such as “Grimm”, “The Librarians”, “The Green Room”, and others such as “”Dark Knight Rises”, “Start Trek” (1 and 2), “Indiana Jones” and “Jurassic World”, amongst many others. Last week saw a strong turnout for the Annual Portland Workforce Alliance NW Youth Careers Expo. Oregon Film asked members of the production community to join us in showcasing an array of production job opportunities that are here in Oregon. With a staggering 5,000 students attending, it was a productive day showing future job possibilities in a hands-on way.
