Film Tourism is growing, becoming a more robust niche sector of cultural tourism every year, and remarkably Oregon has hundreds of incredible locations that have starred in films, TV series, and high-profile commercials since the silent movie days of 1904. In order to build upon this growing tourism niche, the Oregon Film Trail has been slowly rolling out Trail stops over the past two years (currently at 33) all highlighting the State’s important contribution to the film and TV industry and (seemingly unlikely) community partnerships all across Oregon.

A new Oregon Film Trail sign will be unveiled in Depoe Bay (4 PM, Thursday, December 19th, 2019). The sign honors the town harbor’s starring role as a location in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. The Depoe Bay Chamber is hosting an unveiling of the newest sign on the Oregon Film Trail in the World’s Smallest Harbor – between dock 1 and 2. A reception will follow at Dockside Charters harbor location. This sign marks an important filming location related to the classic feature film, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and features a few facts and anecdotes about the film as well as a reference to two other films shot close by (The Burning Plain and Sometimes A Great Notion).. Oregon Film Trail Continues in Salem!
Two Oregon Film Trail signs were unveiled over the week end honoring Salem’s starring role as a location for “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” (the honors being done by Oregon Museum of Mental Health Museum Curator, Megan Lallier-Barron and Dennie Brooks, Board Member.) The signs mark two different filming locations related to the now classic feature film, “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest,” and feature facts and anecdotes about the film. #OregonMadeShows Exibit
In collaboration with PDXART, and many other partners (please see list below) a new exhibit is up on Concourse E, at the Portland International Airport this week. The exhibit showcases “vignettes” of artifacts, props and images from just a few of the 400+ feature films & television shows that have utilized Oregon as their production backdrop over the years. From the early silent era films like “Fisherman’s Bride” (shot in Astoria, 1908), to “Grimm”, the popular NBC television series currently shooting in Portland, Oregon has played an important role in production. On October 5 at Willamette University’s Hudson Hall, the new Museum of Mental Health will be hosing a special event called “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest: A Retrospective”. The event will include film highlights and a panel discussion on the making of the film based on Ken Kesey’s novel. The film’s Louise Fletcher (she won an Academy Award for portraying Nurse Ratched) will be in attendance as well as documentary filmmakers Charles Kiselyak, and Antoine De Gaudemar.
