In our Monthly Film Series, we will show a variety of GERMAN or GERMAN language films from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. On the 2nd Tuesday of each month, audiences will now have a chance to see these films on a regular basis at the CLINTON STREET THEATER. This year’s Outdoor Adventure Film Grant (OAFG’23) called for personal stories from and about the BIPOC community and Oregon’s outdoors. This year’s theme was specifically “The Nature Gap” – the uneven and inequitable distribution of wild, outdoor space based on race or socioeconomic status.

The OAFG’23 aims to help support and amplify stories and storytellers (both in front of and behind the camera) by utilizing Oregon’s outdoor spaces as a backdrop. Experienced BIPOC filmmakers and their on-camera subjects were invited to apply with a short film pitch that would inform, inspire, capture, and/or reveal a personal journey involving an outdoor pursuit that is set against the backdrop of Oregon’s majestic landscape.

We are excited to see Vivian Cheng’s article and spotlight in the New Yorker magazine (Interviews Issue+ Screening Room) today on Shariffa Chelimo Ali, Director + Co-writer of “You Go Girl!”.

“You Go Girl!” – the fourth annual Outdoor Adventure Film Grant– “Oregon’s Outdoors Are For Everyone” winner (OAFG21) screened at Sundance 2022 in the U.S. Live Action Short Films, and also the Oregon Shakespeare Festival O site. Filmmakers, Shariffa Ali, Kamilah Long, Courtney Williams, and Adrian Aleas’ short film tells the story of Audrey, a New York City comedian who can make a joke of any situation, facing a staggering challenge in the beautiful mountains of Oregon. Oregon Film, and the Oregon Made Creative Foundation in conjunction with Travel Oregon, are pleased to announce the 2023 Oregon Outdoor Film Grant (OAFG2023) – the 5th grant in this collaboration.

This year’s grant is seeking to invite filmmakers to explore the “Nature Gap” – the term that describes the uneven and inequitable access to wild, outdoor spaces in America.

Natural space is supposed to be free and accessible for everyone, but in reality, it is not apportioned equally to all races, ages, genders, or income groups.

What has Oregon Film been up to? – After assuring our industry worked so well through the turbulent pandemic period with several projects of all sizes, 2022 started off with a slow down. Needless to say, Oregon is still attractive and a great place to bring your creative production. Recently we worked with the state legislature and partners like the OMPA and the IATSE and SAG-AFTRA unions to increase the film and media cash rebate percentages from 18% to 25%. ‘The College Girl’ was shot in 2015 and finally premiered on Amazon Prime on April 20th, 2022. Described stylistically as Jim Jarmusch meets Kevin Smith, this deadpan satire follows an innocent young girl from farm country who moves to the big city to pursue her dreams. But as time goes on, she finds that her expectations might be out of touch with cold, hard reality.
