Here at the Oregon Film office, we often get the question: “What do you do?” Well, the best answer is “a lot” but that isn’t sufficient to really capture all the work that goes on in this office. So let’s break it down.

The Oregon Film office has the mandate to oversee the economic development of the film, television, interactive, animation, and commercial industries in Oregon – with projects and producers that are living and working within the state, as well as projects and producers that are looking to bring their shows from outside of Oregon. Creative Opportunity Program Launches for 2022-23

Last legislative session a bill passed that allowed Oregon Film to allocate funds to a program called the “Creative Opportunity Program.” This program dedicates up to $375,000 per year to creative projects, producers and programs around the state. These programs include the continuation of existing programs like the Pathways job training and placement program, the Outdoor Adventure Film Grant, the Tell Your Story Grant and partnership programs like CINE/SEEN and Creatives of Color Networking events (OMPA) and the BIPOC Filmmaker Grant (BendFilm). What has Oregon Film been up to? – After assuring our industry worked so well through the turbulent pandemic period with several projects of all sizes, 2022 started off with a slow down. Needless to say, Oregon is still attractive and a great place to bring your creative production. Recently we worked with the state legislature and partners like the OMPA and the IATSE and SAG-AFTRA unions to increase the film and media cash rebate percentages from 18% to 25%. “You Go Girl” – the fourth annual Outdoor Adventure Film Grant– “Oregon’s Outdoors Are For Everyone” winner (OAFG21) – will be screening at Sundance! Filmmakers, Shariffa Ali, Kamilah Long, Courtney Williams, and Adrian Aleas’ short film tells the story of Audrey, a New York City comedian who can make a joke of any situation, faces a staggering challenge in the beautiful mountains of Oregon.

Oregon’s open spaces and outdoor pursuits are for all Americans and visitors, yet there is a well-documented inequity in America that is deeply rooted in our shared cultural history, and as a whole, our outdoor spaces are not equally utilized for a multitude of historical, social and cultural reasons. Winter Season Grant Award Winners Announced!

The Oregon Made Creative Foundation in conjunction with Travel Oregon are pleased to announce the winners of the first ever Winter Season Grant. The Grant is part of an ongoing content partnership between Travel Oregon and the Oregon Made Creative Foundation. There was a large and exciting application turnout with many creative and well-qualified ideas but Gordon Klco and Rob Finchs’ pitch, “Wish You Were Here,” took the top spot. Klco grew up in the high desert of the Rocky Mountains and his “love for skiing and kayaking led him into the adventure film world” where he started his career.

Oregon’s Magical Winter Season Grant

The $15,000 “Winter Season Grant” is being provided by the OregonMade Creative Foundation and in conjunction with Travel Oregon to create a short film series of moving “postcard stories” that will captivate and encourage people to experience the winter season for themselves. The purpose of this grant is to support local content creators who are producing high-quality, innovative multimedia content about Oregon that inspires travel to or around the state.
