It’s great to watch movies set in your hometown.  For many of us, Free Willy is a childhood favorite. This Sept. 22nd, when attending the #OregonMade film event, pay close attention to the implicit biases that show up in this film. The last time I watched “Free Willy” two scenes left me shaking my head in disbelief.  How had I not noticed these scenes before?  Today, it’s my job to turn a critical eye toward all media and unpack biases. “Tell Your Story” Grant Announces Winners!

The Oregon Made Creative Foundation (OMCF) is pleased to announce the winners of the “Tell Your Story” grant; Howard Mitchell, Emma Duvall, and Nic Popp.  This grant was funded through the Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC) and was part of the CARES Act and is being provided by the RACC, OMCF, and  Oregon Film. Supporting and contributing sponsors include Cast Iron Studios, Oregon Media Production Association (OMPA), Willamette Writers, and Gearhead Grip.

From OSF’s O! Original Programming Comes New Short Film – “Ash Land”

From the team that recently won the fourth annual Outdoor Adventure Film Grant – “Oregon’s Outdoors Are For Everyone” (OAFG21) with their winning application, (entitled, “You Go Girl”) is their newly released, “Ash Land.”  This short film is part of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s “O!” original programming  – an immersive and interactive digital space where there is something for everyone. Short Film, “Another Day” Follows A Young Black Girl’s Experiences Navigating Through Portland’s Predominately White Schools

Another Day” was written and directed by Portland ethnographic filmmaker, Sommer Martin.

In Martin’s own words, “Another Day” is a film following a young Black girl’s experiences navigating through Portland’s predominately white schools. Another Day, in conjunction with Portland public school teachers and administrators, comes with discussion questions as a guide for viewings of the film for students, teachers, religious organizations, and more. Produced by Golden Pride Productions and starring Broadway actor Bobbi MacKenzie.”

The Regional Arts & Culture Council and “countless other donors” made this project possible.
