Space available for Special FX Makeup Class this Monday!

Limited space available for an incredible opportunity to be taught by top special fx artist Christina Kortum in a small four student sized classroom. Class starts Monday July 30th – Fri Aug. 3rd from 9am-3pm at Art of Makeup in Multnomah Village in SW Portland. Christina will teach bruises, cuts, wounds, scars, bullet holes, burns, small prosthetic application and removal, sickness, track marks, dirt and grime, tattoos and more.

Oregon Filmmaker and EOFF co-founder Ian Clark named in Filmmakers’s ’25’

Eastern Oregon Film Festival’s co-founder and programming co-director Ian Clark was recently included as one of Filmmaker Magazine’s ’25 New Faces in Independent Film’. Ian’s recent films ‘Country Story’ (EOFF 2011 Primiere) and soon to be released short film “Searching for Yellow” have garnered attention for the works’ subtle narratives and intimate photography.

“Cinema is another medium just like painting,” says Clark, who is now doing an MFA in digital art at University of Oregon in Eugene.

Shwood Uses Age Old 3D Technique on Newest Video Celebrating Oregon’s Beauty

A few months back the wood framed sunglasses company Shwood produced a fantastic website featuring many beautiful Oregon locations. The site was called “This is Oregon” and it featured locations all over the state. Today I received a link to another video produced by Shwood but this time they used a 3D technique dating back to the early 1800’s. The technique is called Stereoscopy and as Shwood describes it:

Invented in 1838, Stereoscopy is a technique used for creating the illusion of three-dimensional depth from images on a two-dimensional plane.

“Grimm” Nominated for Outstanding Stunt Coordination Emmy

Earlier in the day we sang the praises of the two Emmy Nominations for “Portlandia” and the three Emmy Nominations for Weiden + Kennedy. We failed to recognize the fact that “Grimm” was nominated in the Outstanding Stunt Coordination category. Stunt Coordinator was recognized for his work on the episode “The Woman in Black”. Congrats Matt and best of luck in September!

Portlandia receives 2 Emmy Nods, Weiden + Kennedy receives 3

Today the Emmy Nominations were announced and “Portlandia” came away with two big nominations. The show was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. Writers Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, Jonathan Kreisel and Karey Dornetto were all listed in the nomination. The show was also recognized for Outstanding Directing in a Variety Series thanks to Jonathan Kreisel’s amazing direction. The episode Jonathan was recognized for was “One Moore Episode” which was voted by the fans as the best episode to date.

Come to the OMPA Classic Golf, Wine or Bike Tour this Friday

If you only get to one event for Oregon’s film and television industry this year, you should make it out to Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River for the OMPA Classic this Friday. The event benefits the Oregon Media Production Association, an institution of Oregon’s crew, vendors, producers and actors that for 30-years has advocated for growth in Oregon’s production industry.

A 16-mile bike ride on the paved trail to the historic Mosier Tunnels departs at 9am. All event participants are invited to lunch at 11:30.

ParaNorman Impresses at Comic-Con 2012!

The annual Comic-Con convention took place in San Diego, CA this past weekend, and LAIKA/Focus Features’ ParaNorman was there in full force. In addition to Norman and the larger-than-life-sized Zombies (seen above) roaming the halls of the convention, there was also a ParaNorman ice cream truck and plenty of free ParaNorman swag being handed out. Attendees were also treated to a live ParaNorman panel in Hall H (appropriately held on Friday the 13th) that offered a sneak peek of the film, behind-the-scenes footage, and a better idea of what to expect when the film premieres August 17th, 2012.

With Premiere of Season 5 of “Leverage” Stealing the Spruce Goose, Evergreen Aviation Museum Gets Nice Exposure

This past Wednesday I was kindly invited to attend a private sneak peak of the premiere episode of “Leverage” season 5 at the Evergreen Aviation Museum’s incredible digital theater. In attendance was Executive Producer Dean Devlin and Co-Producer Jose Behar along with founder of Evergreen Aviation Dell Smith. The screening was held at Evergreen because much of the first episode takes place at the museum. The Leverage team pulls off a con to steal the legendary Howard Hughes aircraft The Spruce Goose which is housed at the Aviation Museum.

ParaNorman – #WeirdWins

As the August premiere of LAIKA’s ParaNorman is approaching, a new website for the film has launched. WeirdWins.com will present a new video showcasing some of the talented people behind the scenes for each of the five weeks leading up to the premiere. You can view the introductory video above. WEIRDWINS is about the artists, animators, craftspeople, and filmmakers behind ParaNorman—former weird kids from all over the world who joined forces to make the biggest stop-motion animated film of all time.
