Local Artist Wraps Me Up In Intertwine

Intertwine. Speaking the word makes one think of grape vines in a vineyard, snakes, tangles and knots. It almost never has positive connotations and reminds us that dealing with something that is intertwined with something else means that as simple as the issue seems at first, it’s going to get very complicated very quickly. Welcome to the world of Intertwine.

Let’s give you the lowdown on the plot:

“Intertwine is based on the words Love, Deceit, and Temptation. The series follows a newly married couple, whose lies unravel their sanity and create a world of chaos.

As the August premiere of LAIKA’s ParaNorman is approaching, a new website for the film has launched. WeirdWins.com will present a new video showcasing some of the talented people behind the scenes for each of the five weeks leading up to the premiere. You can view the introductory video above. WEIRDWINS is about the artists, animators, craftspeople, and filmmakers behind ParaNorman—former weird kids from all over the world who joined forces to make the biggest stop-motion animated film of all time.

Cell Count accepted into the 2012 Sitges Film Festival.

PORTLAND, Oregon (July 9, 2012) The feature film “Cell Count” premiered on May 20th at the Fantaspoa Fantastic Film Festival and is an Official Selection of this year’s Macabro Film Festival in Mexico City this August. This week offered the Producer’s of the film an exciting third acceptance to a film festival so far this year, the Sitges Film Festival in Spain.

The Sitges Film Festival is ‘the number one fantasy film festival in the world and represents, at the same time, the cultural expression with the most media impact in Catalonia.

Local Animation and Motion Graphics Company HB Design

Recently we’ve been finding new companies popping up around the state focused on animation and motion graphics and featuring their good work on our blog. From this chatter we’ve managed to also connect with great companies that have been around for quite a while. One such company is HB Design. HB Design has been around for 30 years and continues to adapt and transition from print to web to digital and beyond. VP of Strategic Development Gail Snow contacted the film office recently to remind us that the talent base is deep and multi-faceted in Oregon.

As we get closer to ParaNorman’s official August release date, LAIKA released an interesting new video today called “Making Norman.” This video gives a unique inside look into how much work goes into designing and fabricating a single stop-motion character. The Northwest Film Forum (NWFF), the Film Center’s sister media arts center in Seattle, provides an array of technical and financial support to regional filmmakers, including the Start-to-Finish program. Since 1998, it has also been a film distributor, using its institutional muscle and expertise to shepherd the much-heralded film POLICE BEAT and other selected independent works into the marketplace. Having built this component of NWFF’s offerings from the ground up, Program Director Adam Sekuler knows the behind-the-scenes terrain inside and out.

Call for Entries: 39th Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival

The 39th Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival continues the Film Center’s tradition of bringing moving image artists of the Northwest together to share ideas, discover resources, inspire, be inspired, and to showcase their finest work to greater audiences. Submit your recent work for consideration!

The entry deadline is Monday, August 1 (postmark) and the Festival runs November 9-17. Entries are judged by a prominent filmmaker, curator, or critic who determines the Festival awards. Past judges have included Gus Van Sant, Matt Groening, and Todd Haynes.

Weiden + Kennedy Takes Home Awards at this years Cannes Lion Festival of Creativity

Portland based ad agency Weiden + Kennedy took home several awards at this year’s Cannes Lion International Festival of Creativity. Most notably W+K won this year’s Advertising Agengy of the Year at the event. As reported in this week’s Oregonian,

Dan Wieden, co-founder and global executive creative director, also received the Lion of St. Mark award, given for “long and outstanding contribution to creativity and communications.”

W+K’s work with leading brands like Nike, Coca-Cola, Heineken, Old Spice and a host of others continues to lead the pack with innovative campaigns and engaging content.
