One year ago, Phrenic launched in the App Store and became the first iOS thriller that users could watch, read, and play. This cloning thriller–created in Portland–is told using episodes, mobile games, choose-your-own-adventure stories, social media fiction and more.

Most people don’t need to think about transmedia–they already experience it through Star Wars characters or Marvel superheroes that crossover into different movies, comics, games and books.

CITY BABY is a Portland-centric coming-of-age story about a group of meandering 20-somethings trying to find meaning in the new world of adulthood. CITY BABY features live performances by Glass Candy and STRFKR/Starfucker, a soundtrack of local Portland bands including Chromatics and The Helio Sequence, as well as a cameo from musical frontman Stephen Malkmus (Pavement).

Exciting Casting Opportunity for Lead in Columbia’s “Little House on the Prairie”

We were recently contacted by Rachel Tenner Casting for Columbia Pictures (and part of the casting team that spearheaded the nationwide search for “Mattie Ross” in the film, “True Grit”) they are casting for the Laura Ingalls lead in “Little House On The Prairie” and are searching for a young girl to fill this role. “Night Moves” To Get A May 30th Release

“Night Moves” will be opening May 30th at the Angelika Film Center in New York, most likely followed by openings in Los Angeles and Portland before playing other cities nationwide.

The film will also be screening in advance of the release date, at the Tribeca Film Festival (April 21st, 24th and 27th), as well as at a few other U.S. festivals.

“Night Moves” was shot exclusively in Southern Oregon.

VFX/PDX User Group Meeting Today – W+K, Mocha & Nuke!

Heads up that VFX/PDX, the local visual effects artist user group, has a meeting on tap for today (April 17) featuring David Jahns of Joint Editorial, Wieden and Kennedy’s in-house post production facility. He’ll be showing off the editing software Smoke from Autodesk and his workflow for the great work coming out of Joint.

Also we have Mary Poplin from Imagineer flying in to demo the popular tracking software Mocha, which won a Sci-Tech Oscar last year and is nothing short of amazing.

OPB Nominated For 21 NW Regional Emmy Awards

OPB has collected 21 nominations for the NW Regional Emmy Awards 2014 from the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. OPB’s local TV productions, and individual staff, have been recognized for their work in many categories, (historical and cultural segments, environmental programming and specials, as well as documentaries, arts & entertainment features, individual writing, producer and reporting honors) as well as an overall “Station Excellence” award. 2014 OPIF Tax Credit Auction Announced for July 9-18

We wanted to let you know of the Oregon Department of Revenue’s plans to conduct a tax credit auction for the Oregon Production Investment Fund (OPIF) in July. The total amount of tax credits to be auctioned will be $10,000,000. This is the largest amount that we have had available to date, so it will be a good opportunity for people to be able take advantage of the tax credits. The process will be exactly the same as the successful auction conducted last October.

iOPIF to Begin Accepting New Applications May 5th

As we near July and the beginning of a new fiscal year, we are preparing to open up the application process for our “local filmmaker” program, commonly referred to as the Indigenous Oregon Production Investment Fund (iOPIF).

We will begin accepting iOPIF applications on May 5th, 2014. Our iOPIF Advisory Committee will evaluate all applications submitted between May 5th and May 9th as having been submitted at the same time. We are looking for projects that are fully financed and ready to be produced this year.

Cinema Pacific Festival Kicks Off In Eugene April 23rd

The fifth annual Cinema Pacific Festival starts on April 23, and the complete festival program is available online at http://cinemapacific.uoregon.edu. (A handy guide is downloadable here.)

Richard Herskowitz, Director of Cinema Pacific says, “This year I’m particularly excited about our partnership with UO Libraries on the James Blue Project, supplementing the exciting new archive of UO alumnus James Blue’s work that is being donated to Special Collections. Also, Cinema Pacific is working closely with the Schnitzer Museum on an array of live performances, panels, and media installations featuring Portland-based media artist Vanessa Renwick, titled Art for Endangered Species, as well as the annual new media exhibition and party, the Fringe Festival.
