After two plus years hand crafting frame by frame, Oregon based animation studio LAIKA is set to debut their second film “ParaNorman” in theaters this coming Friday. We at the Oregon Film Office will be at the Regal Lloyd Center theaters with a block of tickets to celebrate the release. In fact we hope to see you there at 11:50 AM for the first showing! We are getting closer and closer to ParaNorman’s August 17th premiere, and there are all kinds of exciting things going on around the country and around the net as the anticipation builds. This is a brief run-down of some of the things going on in the next two weeks.

ParaNorman Impresses at Comic-Con 2012!

The annual Comic-Con convention took place in San Diego, CA this past weekend, and LAIKA/Focus Features’ ParaNorman was there in full force. In addition to Norman and the larger-than-life-sized Zombies (seen above) roaming the halls of the convention, there was also a ParaNorman ice cream truck and plenty of free ParaNorman swag being handed out. Attendees were also treated to a live ParaNorman panel in Hall H (appropriately held on Friday the 13th) that offered a sneak peek of the film, behind-the-scenes footage, and a better idea of what to expect when the film premieres August 17th, 2012. As the August premiere of LAIKA’s ParaNorman is approaching, a new website for the film has launched. WeirdWins.com will present a new video showcasing some of the talented people behind the scenes for each of the five weeks leading up to the premiere. You can view the introductory video above. Great Film Festival Programming in Ashland and Eugene Coming in April

Once again in April Oregon is home to a series of great film festivals in consecutive weeks. The eleventh annual Ashland Independent Film Festival is happening April 12-16. This year the festival is honoring acclaimed director Julie Taymor. With Ms. Taymor’s experience in both live theater and film, it makes perfect sense that Oregon Shakespeare Festival Artistic Director Bill Rauch will join Ms. Taymor on stage for a certain lively and engaging discussion. Superbowl Ads Once Again Have an Oregon Connection

Last year Portland’s powerhouse ad agency Weiden + Kennedy made waves with their Chrysler commercial featuring Eminem. This year it was Clint Eastwood. (I can’t embed the clip so here’s the link) http://www.youtube.com/chrysler?sid=1037056&KWNM=chrysler+commercial&KWID=3179744957SB_2012&channel=paidsearch The spot which aired at halftime of the Superbowl was almost as much of a pep rally as it was a commercial. It’s already received a lot of buzz and sure to continue through the week. W+K also scored with several Coca Cola commercials featuring their animated Polar Bears.
