The Toronto Film Festival has announced its 2010 lineup. Among them is Kelly Reichardt’s “Meek’s Cutoff” as part of the Comtemporary World Cinema Programme.
Kelly Reichardt directed the short films Ode (99), Then a Year (01) and Travis (04). Her feature films include River of Grass (94), Old Joy (06), which won a Tiger Award at the 2006 Rotterdam International Film Festival, Wendy and Lucy (08), which was named best film of 2008 by the Toronto Film Critics Association. Eugene, OR. The DIVA Center is hosting the last two programs in a four part “Best Of” the Archaeology Channel International Film and Television Festival series this weekend.
The Portland Women’s Film Festival (a.k.a. POW Fest) will be placing a local spotlight on the issue of Child Trafficking and abuse on September 9th , 6pm at the Hollywood Theatre, with a special screening of the documentary “Playground” by Director Libby Spears, executive produced by George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh. The screening will benefit Caldera and POW Fest Documentary Programming. The evening will begin with a reception, sponsored by New Belgium Brewing Company, a silent auction and special introduction by Senator Ron Wyden – cosponsor of an anti-trafficking bill in the Senate – and conclude with a special Question & Answer session with civic leaders and Spears immediately following the film. The Center will be hosting an informational evening showcasing many of the area’s film organizations that present film festivals, teach about film, and promote professional film, video, and media arts production. The Wait, a drama, written and directed by Oregonian, M.Blash (Lying), and starring Chloe Sevigny (Lying, Big Love, Boys Don’t Cry) , Luke Grimes (Brothers & Sisters) and Jena Malone (Lying, Into The Wild, Pride and Prejudice) was shot entirely on location in Central Oregon, specifically Black Butte Ranch as well as Sisters.
