Green Happenings – Walking The Green Talk

Last week I attended the Go Green Portland conference with such speakers as Cylvia Hayes, the founder and CEO of 3EStrategies, (a clean economy consulting firm) and partner of Gov. John Kitzhaber; Duncan Wyse, president of the Oregon Business Council; Carol Sanford, author of “The Responsible Business” and Nick Barham of Weiden and Kennedy.   It seemed that they had a common theme; many valuable and interesting businesses are blossoming here in the Pacific Northwest and much useful work is underway but there is much yet be done.  Continue reading... “Green Happenings – Walking The Green Talk”

This week we bring you the final two videos of our Summer Interns’ “Oregon Vendor Spotlight” video series.  In today’s video (above), the Interns visit the Portland family owned City Liquidators.

What at first appeared to be a common furniture store has become a unique, one-stop shop for film and television productions looking to buy props and other items in the Portland area. City Liquidators, family owned and operated by the Pelett family, has seen a recent boost in business thanks to the film industry in Oregon.

Oregon Vendor Spotlight: Cambridge Precision Machining

In this week’s video (above), the Oregon Film Summer Interns visit Cambridge Precision Machining in Tigard Oregon.

Cambridge Precision Machining recently experienced a 20% increase in revenue due to work manufacturing the tiny joints and parts of the armature skeletons for LAIKA’s stop-motion animated feature “ParaNorman.” Based on referrals, they are now getting additional work from as far away as Great Britain.

You can view the four previous videos in the series here: “Shop Adorn” , “Local Nursery Supply Chain” , “PG&L and Bend Oregon’s ATI” , and Koerner Camera Systems.   Continue reading... “Oregon Vendor Spotlight: Cambridge Precision Machining”

DEMYSTIFYING DISTRIBUTION: A WORKSHOP

You’ve finished your film, now what?

The Northwest Film Forum (NWFF), the Film Center’s sister media arts center in Seattle, provides an array of technical and financial support to regional filmmakers, including the Start-to-Finish program. Since 1998, it has also been a film distributor, using its institutional muscle and expertise to shepherd the much-heralded film POLICE BEAT and other selected independent works into the marketplace. Having built this component of NWFF’s offerings from the ground up, Program Director Adam Sekuler knows the behind-the-scenes terrain inside and out. Season 2 Kick Off of “Grimm” Also a Celebration of the Local Small Business Supply Chain

Greg Knowles from ATI in Bend, OR

Yesterday’s Season 2 kickoff event at the stages of “Grimm” was a great time for all to celebrate the fact that several hundred Oregonians are hard at work making the first of 22 episodes for the new season.  It was also a great opportunity to feature several local vendors who have benefited in many different ways because of “Grimm” and other projects like “Leverage” and “Portlandia”.  While visiting the sets of both “Grimm” and “Leverage”, Governor Kitzhaber has remarked several times about the film and television industry’s great use of the local supply chains.  Continue reading... “Season 2 Kick Off of “Grimm” Also a Celebration of the Local Small Business Supply Chain”
