Northwest filmmakers put their hearts on stage this November 9-18 during the Northwest Film Center’s 39th Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival.
Feature film highlights include Lynn Shelton’s YOUR SISTER’S SISTER, starring Rosemarie DeWitt, Emily Blunt, and Mark Duplass; James Westby’s RID OF ME starring Katie O’Grady; a special FREE 50th Anniversary screening of POLLUTION IN PARADISE, the 1962 KGW-8 produced film that documents the beginning of the environmental movement in Oregon that became the hallmark of former Governor Tom McCall’s tenure; and closing the Festival is Matt McCormick’s THE GREAT NORTHWEST. Oregon has always been known as a great place for the independent film scene, and 2012 is no exception. Since July, there have been four independent films that have been accepted as a part of the Indigenous Oregon Production Investment Fund which was created in 2009. In addition, critically acclaimed director Kelly Reichardt is directing her fourth film in Oregon. The first one to go into production was “The A List”, which was produced in Lake Oswego. Bent Image Lab and Hallmark have joined forces once again this time to produce the 2D animated comedy “hoops&yoyo’s Haunted Halloween”. Based off of the popular Hallmark e- card characters, the “hoops&yoyo” TV Special was directed by Bent’s Rob Shaw and features the hilarious pink cat and green bunny getting trapped in a haunted mall on Halloween night.

The local premiere of our debut film, ‘Nightscape’ will screen on Friday, November 16th at 7:30pm and 9:30pm at The Venetian Theater in Hillsboro. The film will also screen on Friday, December 14th at 9:30pm at The Hollywood Theater in Portland as a benefit for the education advocacy organization Stand for Children.
‘Nightscape’ is about an emotionally-guarded drifter who crosses paths with a phantom car responsible for a wave of supernatural violence. First up is The Weather Outside and its World Premiere at this year’s Eugene International Film Festival. The Weather Outside is the story of Max who “finds himself separated from his family on Christmas Eve. He ultimately comes to the conclusion that his wife has left him and taken their children along with her.
