Nike Brings You the “ParaNorman” Shoe #weirdwins

You all know the connection between LAIKA and Nike so it’s no great surprise the Nike has released a “ParaNorman” shoe tied to the release of the film.   Regardless this is pretty cool!  We found the news in this morning’s Portland Business Journal but the gallery showing the shoe can be found here on examiner.com

NW Documentary’s Film “Summer Snapshot” to Screen in Hollywood, CA

SUMMER SNAPSHOT, produced by NW Documentary, and directed by Emmy Award winning filmmaker Ian McCluskey will be screening at the 8th annual HollyShorts Film Festival, which takes place August 9-16 at Grauman’s Chinese 6 in Hollywood. The organizers of HollyShorts (www.hollyshorts.com) announced the acclaimed short film SUMMER SNAPSHOT was selected from more than 1,000 entries from 20 countries in competition.

Described as “nostalgic, wistful, perfect,” by the Wall Street Journal, SUMMER SNAPSHOT plays out, shot by sun-kissed shot, an idyllic day at a mountain river where a group of friends spend an afternoon skinny-dipping, strumming guitars, and circling a campfire. Local film lovers took to review the 112 entries for this year’s festival and selected the 53 films that are now coined  “Official Selections” of WLES for 2012

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Todd Haynes donates autographed portrait to benefit The Right Brain Initiative

Nationally renowned filmmaker Todd Haynes is the subject of a one-of-a-kind portrait that posted today on eBay. This ten-day auction supports a good cause: Haynes donated the giclee print to benefit The Right Brain Initiative’s arts education programming in Portland, Oregon area schools. The print is signed by both Haynes and the portrait’s artist, Steve Cohn. Cohn is brother-in-law to Haynes, and works under the pseudonym Jasper Marks. It’s been a busy summer for us interns at Oregon Film compared to what most people our age are doing right now: swimming, camping, and vacationing in general. Portlandia receives 2 Emmy Nods, Weiden + Kennedy receives 3

Today the Emmy Nominations were announced and “Portlandia” came away with two big nominations.  The show was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series.  Writers Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, Jonathan Kreisel and Karey Dornetto were all listed in the nomination.  The show was also recognized for Outstanding Directing in a Variety Series thanks to Jonathan Kreisel’s amazing direction.  The episode Jonathan was recognized for was “One Moore Episode” which was voted by the fans as the best episode to dateContinue reading... “Portlandia receives 2 Emmy Nods, Weiden + Kennedy receives 3”

As the August premiere of LAIKA’s ParaNorman is approaching, a new website for the film has launched. WeirdWins.com will present a new video showcasing some of the talented people behind the scenes for each of the five weeks leading up to the premiere.  You can view the introductory video above.  Below is a little more information about the site:

WEIRDWINS is about the artists, animators, craftspeople, and filmmakers behind ParaNorman—former weird kids from all over the world who joined forces to make the biggest stop-motion animated film of all time.

Weiden + Kennedy Takes Home Awards at this years Cannes Lion Festival of Creativity

Portland based ad agency Weiden + Kennedy took home several awards at this year’s Cannes Lion International Festival of Creativity.  Most notably W+K won this year’s Advertising Agengy of the Year at the event. As reported in this week’s Oregonian,

Dan Wieden, co-founder and global executive creative director, also received the Lion of St. Mark award, given for “long and outstanding contribution to creativity and communications.”
