Lower Boom is a new Portland-based micro-budget film studio, talent incubator, and Film Discovery platform developer, and they are having a launch party this Monday, April 13th, at Dig a Pony (736 SE Grand).

They are going to screen their inaugural project, the short film LETTER B, a fictionalized recreation of the Beatle’s documentary Let It Be, with an all-female cast as the band, and will also highlight their upcoming projects. Continue reading... “Lower Boom Launches!”

CITIZENFOUR is a real life thriller, unfolding by the minute, giving audiences unprecedented access to filmmaker Laura Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald’s encounters with Edward Snowden in Hong Kong, as he hands over classified documents providing evidence of mass indiscriminate and illegal invasions of privacy by the National Security Agency (NSA).

“A River Between Us” Screens at Oregon Historical Society

IMG_4505Every seat was filled last night at the Oregon invite-only screening of “A River Between Us” – a feature documentary detailing the sometimes contentious, and largest restoration project in the US along the Klamath River.  Jason Atkinson, keen fisherman and 14 year Oregon state senator, introduced his film to a rapt audience including current Governor Kate Brown and past Governor, Ted Kulongoski.  Read more here.

“GRIMM” Gives Back – Makes 310K For OHSU’s Doernbecher Children’s Hospital

The Grimm Gala took place February 7th at the Exchange Ballroom as a benefit for OHSU’s Doernbecher Children’s hospital.  A whopping 310,000 was donated to the “Grimmster Endowment“fund (the goal was $100,000). Many items from the show were auctioned off, and even a walk on role on “Grimm” was offered.   The cast were in attendance.  Read more here. POWGirls Expands Program to Empower Young Filmmakers

POWFest will host POWGirls in 2015, a unique partnership program with MetroEast Community Media, specifically designed for girls ages 15-18. Over the course of four days in January, a group of selected girls will develop, produce, edit and present a film during the Youth Shorts program at the POWFest March 12-15, 2015.
