After 21 years of vibrant operation, the Filmed by Bike film festival is for sale (details here).
“Filmed by Bike has been an artistic and advocacy dream come true. The impact we’ve made on communities around the world has lasting effect. The joy and inclusivity we’ve been able to bring to the bicycle culture is monumental.
“As much as Filmed by Bike created a movement, we also created an impressive tool that has so much more life left in it.
To celebrate Portland’s production and media industry and to support local businesses and boost engagement within the Central City, the Events and Film Office at Prosper Portland is excited to activate downtown Portland vacant storefronts with a series of movies and TV shows filmed and/or produced here in Portland.
During Every Wednesday’s lunch hour in October, downtown street windows will come alive with screenings of film and TV content among displays inspired by the productions such as: LAIKA’s The Story So Far, James Beard Award-winning All the Homies Network, and NBC Universal’s Grimm.
Please join the Portland Events and Film office, along with Catalyst Film Collective, to connect with a collaborative group of film industry professionals. We believe film, as an art, is important for its own sake as well as for our local ecosystem.
We want to meet you, hear from you, and be your resource for film industry updates and news from the organizations and agencies that work in the production and media industries. Let’s do what we do best—collaborate and create!
The Portland Art Museum’s film and new media center, PAM CUT // Center for an Untold Tomorrow, is thrilled to announce the opening of the Tomorrow Theater, a new space devoted to expanding what constitutes cinema, art, and multimedia storytelling. The 250-seat Tomorrow Theater will open its doors to the public on November 3, 2023, with programming designed to inspire and surprise audiences and artists no longer content to be contained to a single medium, label, or art form.
The opening week, featuring legendary artist David Byrne, will give audiences a taste of what to expect from PAM CUT’s new venue in the heart of Southeast Portland, at 3530 SE Division St.
Join us Thursday, October 19th from 6 PM to 10 PM at Desert Island Studios, 1316 SE 12th Ave. Portland. As always, the evening will feature live table reads of a cut from each script, plus a facilitated feedback session, drinks/snacks, and networking.Masami Kawai is a Los Angeles-born filmmaker who lives in Eugene, Oregon. It is gratifying to see the travel discovery platform, TripsToDiscover, name St. Helens’ own Spirit of Halloweentown Festival one of the “16 Best Halloween Events in the US” – not bad for a festival in a small town of 14,000. So how did this all begin? According to the Festival website, “in 1998 the small city of St. Helens served as a backdrop to the Disney Channel Halloween classic “Halloweentown”, and each year thereafter they transform their Riverfront District into the Spirit of Halloweentown, a celebration of all things spooky.
On the Surface: “Free Willy”
It’s great to watch movies set in your hometown. For many of us, Free Willy is a childhood favorite. This Sept. 22nd, when attending the #OregonMade film event, pay close attention to the implicit biases that show up in this film. The last time I watched “Free Willy” two scenes left me shaking my head in disbelief. How had I not noticed these scenes before? Today, it’s my job to turn a critical eye toward all media and unpack biases.

The Young Workers Committee will be holding an art show auction Friday the 13th of October to raise funds for the Entertainment Community Fund to help workers affected by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike (including you). We’re looking for art submissions to be auctioned and volunteer crew to help with making the show happen.
