LAIKA and Focus Features Announce Two New Feature Film Projects in Oregon

CORALINE PARTNERS FOCUS FEATURES AND LAIKA RETEAM FOR TWO-PICTURE DISTRIBUTION DEAL; 3D STOP-MOTION ANIMATED COMEDY THRILLER PARANORMAN OPENS AUGUST 17, 2012

NEW YORK and PORTLAND, OR, May 4, 2011 – Focus Features and LAIKA, the two companies behind the Academy Award-nominated animated feature Coraline are reteaming for LAIKA’s next two projects. The first of the duo, ParaNorman, will be released nationwide on August 17th, 2012. The second, yet-to-be-named, picture will be released nationwide in 2014. Following the groundbreaking Coraline, ParaNorman is only the second stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3D.

BridgePort Brewing Presents Sound + Vision Fest at Hollywood Theatre

BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s oldest craft brewery, is proud to announce this year’s “Sound and Vision Fest” taking place at the Hollywood Theatre to benefit restoration projects at the 85 year-old Portland landmark.

The festival was created to showcase new or existing collaborations between musicians and filmmakers, exploring how the moving image informs musical performance and vice versa. Each night of the festival will be curated by a different local artist and will feature a mixture of film screenings and live music from favorite local bands.

Portland, OR – April 22, 2011 – Directed by brothers, Todd and Jason Freeman, and filmed entirely in Portland Oregon, the new motion picture, “Wake Before I Die,” stars an all local cast and crew showcasing all that Oregon has to offer.

Two Spots Left for HD/Film Makeup Workshops

Aspiring artsists learn the latest HD/film techniques through hands-on instruction that utilizes live models and HD cameras and monitors.

There are two slots remaining for Colour Box Makeup Studios’ upcoming HD/Film makeup workshops in Portland.

The five-day Makeup Artist Boot Camp and one-day Airbrush Seminar, scheduled for June 1-6, are limited to 12 aspiring artists, all of whom will be trained by award-winning celebrity/film/television makeup artist Kerry Herta. Each artist will receive hands-on training using live models and have their work analyzed using HD cameras and monitors.

Are you a creative, fun-loving, fan of the internet whose thirst for knowledge will never be quenched? There is an event just for you! May 25-27, join Oregon Film at WebVisions, Portland’s own ‘creative conference for the web’. Oregon Film is proudly co-presenting: “Portlandia: The Story Behind the Series”. In this talk, Marie and Colin Moore of IFC and Andrew Singer of Broadway Video will discuss the “perfect storm”—driven via the web, social media and press—that elevated the show from a web series called “Thunder Ant” to the hipster chic hit cable series that will be entering its second season in January.

Earth Day April 22nd – Call for Green Vendors for Searchable Database

The Film Office has recently been working with the Producers Guild of America by adding to an on-line searchable database of green vendors for production in Oregon. As Earth Day approaches on April 22nd, you might consider joining the “A Billion Acts Green®” by suggesting a green vendor, to add to this database. There is no charge for these listing and the more there are, the more opportunities productions have to make green choices.

DISORIENT ASIAN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL OF OREGON CELEBRATES SIXTH ANNIVERSARY

EUGENE, OREGON – April 18, 2011. The Chinese American Benevolent Association is pleased to announce the sixth anniversary of the DisOrient Asian American Film Festival with a selection of highly provocative and unique quality films. DisOrient has grown from a grass roots film festival started in 2005 by Eugene native Jason Mak to an all-volunteer run community event that features films that support social justice themes and that break the Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander stereotypes so often portrayed in mainstream media.

Miranda July to Visit Hollywood Theatre May 6th & 7th

In partnership with Portland State University’s Social Practice MFA program led by Harrell Fletcher and Jen Delos Reyes, and with support from Roadside Attractions, the Hollywood Theatre will host Miranda July on May 6^th and 7^th, presenting advanced screenings of her latest film The Future, as well as a shorts program featuring her early work.
