Eastern Oregon Film Festival Releases 2013 Festival Program and Sets Stage for Feb. 28 – March, 2nd in La Grande

EOFF2013 is the fourth annual Eastern Oregon Film Festival held in La Grande, OregonFebruary 28th – March 2nd, 2013. EOFF features an amazing line-up of emerging independent feature and short films. The festival opens with Only The Youngan intimate portrait of three enigmatic teenagers searching for love, friendship, and skate parksThe film  somehow manages to capture the fly-on-the-wall perspective of a documentary, with the aesthetic of a patiently and beautifully shot narrative film.  Friday night ends with War Witch (Rebelle), the incredibly unique and powerful 2013 Academy Award nominated ‘Best Foreign Language Film’.

BIRDS OF NEPTUNE, a film by Steven Richter, is currently in production in Portland OR, to be released in fall, 2013.

Birds of Neptune, written and directed by Steven Richter (Center of Gravity, Myth of Drowning), is an independent feature film set in Portland, OR, produced by Reverie PDX and Lara Cuddy (The Weather Outside, Cell Count), and scheduled for release in fall 2013.

 

Birds of Neptune follows a short period of time in the young lives of two orphaned sisters who refuse to move on from their complicated, tragic past into their adult lives.

“House of Last Things” to Premiere at “20th International Festival du Film Fantastique de Gerardmer”

MICHAEL BARTLETT’s Oregon made “House of Last Things” has been selected to premiere in competition in France January 30 – February 4th at the “20th International Festival du film fantastique de Gérardmer”. One of nine films selected for competition, the films in competition include Barry Levinson’s “The Bay,” and from Spain, “Mama”.

Cast includes Lindsey Haun (TRUE BLOOD), Blake Berris (DAYS OF OUR LIVES), and RJ MITTE (BREAKING BAD) in his first feature film role.

This is the festival’s 20th anniversary and we are honored to be returning to France for our world premiere.

Portland Premier follows OMPA Annual Meeting on Monday

On Monday, January 28, 2013 at McMenamins Mission Theater in Northwest Portland, the Oregon Media Production Association‘s 6:30 pm annual meeting presents Awards of Excellence, and is followed by two films written and directed by Oregon independent filmmaker James Westby.

“Hot in the Zipper” a raucous screwball comedy set in the apartment of three lovely ladies in 1947 Manhattan, was filmed entirely in one unbroken 18-minute take and stars Jana Lee Hamblin, Katie O’Grady, Elizabeth Strelow and Spencer Conway. Additional credits include director of photography Kevin Fletcher, production designer David Storm, costume designer Casey Boyd and sound recordist Morgan Hobart.

We were truly blown away by the amount of people that showed up on Tuesday and honestly not prepared for the possibility of filling the theater.  I hear we had to turn away nearly a hundred people in Portland.  Luckily the team that provided the video services for the night at PSU (thank you Brian) recorded the event.  We did not have permission to provide all the clips that were shown Tuesday night but if you want to hear what everyone had to say watch it here on Vimeo.

“Blood Count” starts where the first film left off and takes our survivors on a high speed journey filled with monsters and fugitives.

36th Portland International Film Festival in February

 

The Northwest Film Center is poised to yet again unleash PIFF excitement on film audiences of the Portland Metro area.  The Opening Night presentation of the 36th Portland International Film Festival (PIFF) hits on Thursday, February 7th at the Newmark Theatre (1111 SW Broadway) with this year’s Spanish submission for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, BLANCANIEVES, a 1920s, silent- set reworking of the Brothers Grimm fairytale “Snow White,” offset by punchy Flamenco rhythms and full of imagination.

Beginning Friday, February 8th, PIFF expands to take over a clutch of venues across town, including the Whitsell Auditorium in the Portland Art Museum, Cinema 21, Cinemagic, Regal Fox Tower, World Trade Center, and Regal Lloyd Center 10.

OpenLens Festival – Eugene, January 26, 2013

RESERVE THIS DATE – SATURDAY, JANUARY 26TH! The Ninth Annual OpenLens Festival is a celebration of the independent spirit in Oregon filmmaking. This year’s event features a film critic seminar, a meet-the-filmmaker public reception, film screenings, and a closing reception and awards ceremony. The Saturday, January 26th Festival will be held in the UO Baker Center Auditorium at 320 E. 10th Street in Eugene.

This is the third year the Short Film/Video Competition has accepted films from across the entire state of Oregon.

Second Story Interactive Studios Receives Innovation In Media Arts Award

In Oregon we are blessed to have people who know how to tell stories.  Storytelling has always been a part of Oregon’s DNA.  We have great novelists, great song-writers, and great filmmakers.  We also have great innovative storytellers.  One such group of innovative storytellers is Second Story Interactive Studios.  Founded in 1994 by Julie Beeler and Brad Johnson, Second Story is thought of as one of the leaders in the interactive industry, collecting over 400 awards and accolades.

Oregon Film Office Says Thanks To “Leverage” For Four Great Seasons Shooting In Portland By Donating Neighborhood Trees

The Oregon Film & Television Office thanked Leverage for four great seasons shooting in the Portland Metro area by donating four trees to be planted in metro neighborhoods through the  Friends Of Trees non-profit program.  Leverage’s Producer, Dean Devlin,  was presented with a certificate noting the dates and neighborhoods the trees will be planted by Senator Ginny Burdick (and, naturally, the certificate was printed on 100% recycled, FSC certified paper).
