41st Northwest Filmmaker’s Festival Kicks Off November 7th

“The Northwest’s premiere showcase of new work by regional filmmakers, the Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival—for 38 years called the Northwest Film & Video Festival—brings artists and audiences together for a singular community celebration. Each year the Festival draws more than 400 entries from filmmakers in Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington, presenting to the public carefully selected programs of outstanding work and awarding critical recognition to top juror- and audience-recognized films. After the Festival, the event lives on in the form of the “Best of the Northwest” touring program, presented at key cultural and educational organizations across the Northwest.”

WILD Contest Has Oregon Covered

Fox Searchlight unveiled the #LifeisWILD contest this week as a headliner in promoting Reese Witherspoon‘s WILD.  Oregon Film was approached by Fox Searchlight to help put this contest together as an interactive and creative way to bring attention to the movie, and in so doing, the Pacific Crest Trail, and Oregon simultaneously.  Oregon Film collaborated with Travel Oregon to pull together a fantastic Grand Prize package of a week long trip to Oregon for the winner and a friend.

Fusion Documentary Challenge Call for Entries

The Fusion Documentary Challenge allows you to create short documentaries (4-7 minutes) in five days from start to finish. You will get to choose the five days they would like to make their film between now and November 5, 2014. Contestants will be given the theme of this year’s challenge and get to choose between two given genres.

The top 20 films receive an exclusive 18-month licensing deal with Fusion to feature these films on Fusion’s broadcast and digital platforms. The top 12 films as determined by an esteemed panel of judges will premiere at Slamdance Film Festival in January 2015 in Park City.

The Oregon Actors Awards celebrate Oregon’s deep pool of professional on-camera actors, and the community that supports them in their business and their craft. Thanks to funding by presenting partner Koerner Camera Systems and support from the SAG-AFTRA actors union, the Oregon Governor’s Office of Film and Television, the Portland Area Theater Alliance, the Alliance of Professional Performers-Northwest and OMPA, event costs were fully supported so that all of the ticket sales were donated to PATA’s Valentine Fund, which provides financial assistance to members of the Portland-area theatre community in times of medical or personal emergency.

Witherspoon and Papandrea Push For More Female Dramas Like “Wild”

Reese Witherspoon (and her producing partner, Bruna Papandrea) have, of course, been getting all kinds of press attention for WILD , and now, more recently, their quest to find quality, female driven dramas.  Their production company, Pacific Standard, has only been around for two years, but already they have three projects (WILD, GONE GIRL, DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS) under their belt.

‘Oregon Actors Awards’ Nominates and Celebrates Oregon Actors, this Sunday

You are invited to celebrate the brightest rising stars in Oregon at the 2014 Oregon Actors Awards. The awards show, sponsored and attended by talent agents, actors and industry supporters from around the region, is this Sunday October 12 at BodyVox in Portland. The one-hour multimedia awards show starts at 6pm and is preceded by a red carpet entrance at 5pm. Hosted reception follows on-site. RSVP and more information is at www.ompa.org/awards/invitation.

The Oregon Actors Awards recognizes on-camera talent whose work has been featured on network television shows, award-winning feature films, indie shorts and web series.

Positive Opening Box Office For “The Boxtrolls” And Laika’s Continued Partnership With Focus Features

Laika’s third big, stop motion feature, “The Box Trolls” (Laika and Focus Features) had some positive nationwide opening numbers, $17.3 million gross, Laika’s biggest opening yet.   Laika President,Travis Knight, and Focus Features CEO, Paul Schlessel announced late last week that they will continue to work together for three more projects.

“The Boxtrolls” Based on Alan Snow’s “Here Be Monsters”, the cardboard wearing Boxtrolls live beneath the streets of Cheesborough, only coming up from underground at night to collect items they need to build machines for their underground city.
