Documentary Proposal Writing With Host Of OPB’s Field Guide

The class takes place on Monday evenings, October 3 to October 24, and will be a great place to jump start your documentary project with an irresistible proposal that leaves funders wanting to know more. Establish credibility for you and your project by answering the key questions: “Why this film?,” “Why now?,” and “Why should you be the producer?.”

Hatfield Marine Science Center Hosts Ocean Research Mini-Film Fest

screen_shot_2016-09-11_at_5-15-21_pm Oregon State’s Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, will be hosting a short mini-film fest September 22nd, at 5 and 7PM at the Hennings Auditorium of the Visitor Center. The films will cover topics such as:

Oregon State University’s Marine Studies Initiative;
Ocean sound in the bottom of the Mariana Trench, with NOAA’s Bob Dziak;
Blue whales nursing, with Leigh Torres of OSU’s Marine Mammal Institute;
Ocean acidification, by OSU’s Justin Smith, with Caren Braby and Steven Rumrill of ODFW;
At sea larvae and plankton sampling with faculty and students from the Cowen/Sponaugle Lab at HMSC

The university’s latest marine-themed commercial will also be shown.

Amelia Earhart fundraiser to launch 9/19/16

You can help our ALI film crew join the search for Amelia Earhart! Our Indiegogo fundraising campaign begins September 19 and will last just one month. The funds will pay for us to secure a place on the expedition ship and film the research team in June and July 2017 as they voyage to the Pacific island of Nikumaroro, where Amelia very likely landed and survived for a time in 1937. This expedition, which includes some serious archaeological fieldwork, could bring home conclusive evidence that the famous aviatrix was there.

AIFF Hires New Executive Director

The Ashland Independent Film Festival has selected the former Executive Director of the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival to its top job. Steven Remington of Moscow, Idaho will succeed Cathy Dombi as the festival’s new executive director.
Maylee Oddo, president of the AIFF board, described Remington as “intelligent, dynamic and resourceful, with proven successes in his field. Steven brings over 20 years of festival and arts administration experience to AIFF, offering a deep background in non-profit management, past fundraising successes, strength with budgets, an ability to connect with individuals in a meaningful way that demonstrates his strategic thinking, clear communication
and relationship-building skills.”

Emmy Win For “Portlandia” Production Design: Schuyler Telleen + Katherine Isom!

Many congrats to Schuyler Telleen, Production Designer, and Katherine Isom, Set Decorator, (“Portlandia”) for winning the Creative Arts Emmy for Production Design For A Variety, Nonfiction, Reality Or Reality-Competition Series – Reality Or Reality-Competition Series…..job well done!

“Portlandia” was nominated Outstanding Comedy Sketch Series, and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series category, with Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, Jonathan Krisel, Graham Wagner and Karey Dornetto.

Sue Arbuthnot and Richard Wilhelm, part-time Burns residents, found themselves in the right the place at the right time to document the recent unfolding, and now on-going, issues that were raised during the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge crisis. The Public News Service followed their story.

Arbuthnot and Wilhelms’ past work include, “Dryland” under their Hare In The Gate Productions, LLC.

NW Documentary Seeking Production Coordinator

NW Documentary, an award-winning arts non-profit, seeks a Production Coordinator to join the creative team and assist with in-house short film projects for the Reach 360 program. The Production Coordinator will assist in managing post-production processes, assemble rough-cut edits, perform media management and provide general technical assistance to the production team.
