In collaboration with PDXART, and many other partners (please see list below) a new exhibit is up on Concourse E, at the Portland International Airport this week. The exhibit showcases “vignettes” of artifacts, props and images from just a few of the 400+ feature films & television shows that have utilized Oregon as their production backdrop over the years. From the early silent era films like “Fisherman’s Bride” (shot in Astoria, 1908), to “Grimm”, the popular NBC television series currently shooting in Portland, Oregon has played an important role in production. Learn all about shooting live events as a trained cameraperson for the Pickathon Music Festival, one of the largest outdoor music festivals in the US (August 4-7).
This mentored crew experience is open to anyone with an interest in filming music, sports and other live events, from absolute beginners/novices to advanced filmmaking students. A combination class and field experience, the fun starts with four weekly instructional sessions devoted to hands-on camera operation techniques, specialized gear such as jibs, robotics, switchers and more, and how a camera crew and director work together as a creative team on location. Got a unique film project that contributes to society? The Roy W. Dean Film Grant is looking to award its grant to one that fits that description. This year’s winner receives $3,500 cash and $30,000 in donated film products and services to help complete their film. Films can be documentaries, short films, features, TV or web series. Deadline for submission is June 30th, 2016.
