Join the Co-Op! Portlandia is Gearing Up for Season 3

Portlandia returns January 4th with a whole new, ten episode season of sketches.

Back in August, Portlandia’s director, Johnathan Krisel told the Oregonian that this season was “getting weirder”, so lots to look forward too then!  Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein will be working with some returning favorites, like Kyle MacLachlan as Portland’s fictitious mayor, as well as plenty of new characters such as Chloë Sevigny playing a new roommate for Carrie and Fred.  However, IFC didn’t want to make hardcore fans wait until January for the new season so they are showing, “Winter In Portlandia” as a special, airing December 14th. Mayor Sam Adams: “The City of Portland is Politely Asking You to Put an Emmy on It”

Portland Mayor, Sam Adams, is rallying behind Portlandia for Emmy consideration in twelve categories, including Outstanding Variety Series.  Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisens’ hit sketch comedy series has already completed two seasons in Portland and is coming back for a third this year.  The show won an Emmy in 2011 for Outstanding Costumes For A Variety/Music Program.

Go Portlandia!

Other news: Portlandia is now available in the UK on the recently launched (in Britain) netflix.com.  And if you are coming for a visit soon, check out IFC’s cool interactive travel map of the city. Bent Image Lab Teams Up with “Portlandia” for “Zero Rats” Sketch

“Portlandia” recently teamed up with Portland animation house Bent Image Lab to produce a stop-motion animated segment featuring Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein as rats attempting to break into a zero packaging grocery store. In “Zero Rats,” the animators at Bent Image Lab did a great job of translating the improvised sketch comedy into animation.  As you can see in the picture below, the artists at Bent also created some beautifully intricate set pieces.

You can view the final clip above, see the great behind-the-scenes video of the animation process below, or read the full press release about the segmentContinue reading... “Bent Image Lab Teams Up with “Portlandia” for “Zero Rats” Sketch”

Great Behind the Scenes Film of “Portlandia”

IFC is looking to go bigger and better with season 2 of “Portlandia” and this behind the scenes film is an indication of what we’re going to see in January.  I do think the coolest part of this show is that above all it’s a show being made by great friends.  The friendship shines through in this piece.  Another key element is Jonathan Krisel – the Director and Writer.  I will not be surprised to see Jonathan rise up the ranks and become even more successful than he already is. The “Portlandia” east coast premiere is tonight in New York (Edison Ballroom) and is showing a strong Portland presence at 47th and Broadway, right off Times Square.  An eclectic variety of Oregon products will make up the goody bags, Rogue Ales created a special “Portlandia” bottle to serve and Portland band, The Thermals, will be playing.  All in all, a true Portland experience right there in New York.

“Portlandia” Covered in the New York Times – Good For Business

I found this article in the Sunday New York Times about the upcoming IFC show “Portlandia”.  The show is not only proving to be one that the media is interested in covering (it’s been in Entertainment Weekly and many local pubs) but it’s managed to stir up some interesting debate.

Recently IFC smartly put this video up on YouTube from the show.  “The Dream of the 90’s is alive in Portland” on the surface seems to make fun of a lot of unique things that exist in Portland.  Continue reading... ““Portlandia” Covered in the New York Times – Good For Business”
