FYI From The Media Lab

Next Generation Media, the company that purchased the CD/DVD replication business from Allied Vaughn just over two years ago, has permanently closed its doors. If you or your organization had assets stored at the Next Generation branch in Portland, it’s going to be a while before you can reclaim them. In deciding how much NGM’s creditors will be paid, the bankruptcy courts have frozen all assets contained in all branches. That’s the bad news. Continue reading... “FYI From The Media Lab”

“Calvin Marshall,” filmed in Ashland, Oregon in late 2007 has now hit the festival circuit.

The producers have come up with a very clever and innovative way to market the film.  Below are a few links to Youtube clips that show behind the scenes footage of the film.  At the end of each clip you are provided a password and a website address (calvinmarshall.com).  At the website you can then watch the finished scene covered in the Youtube footage.  Continue reading... “"Calvin Marshall" – Behind the Scenes”

FMYI (for my innovation) organizes customers’ video and film production, makes “A New Day” video of their own

Is your production information slipping through the cracks? Mine was. Then, my best friend from 3rd grade told me about a system he’d just created for Nike solving this exact problem. Together, we customized FMYI to handle the unique pressures of the production world. As a producer of nationally syndicated programs for over 10 years, I knew that creating television, film or new media has a seemingly endless number of moving pieces, making good communication within a team critical. With today’s tighter budgets and people working from dispersed locations production has become even more difficult. Featured Video: Portland, Oregon

Oh Stumptown…

A video to sell Portland. Tough. If you are familiar with the region, you know what an easy sell it is. Ohhh, but try condensing it into a 3:00-4:00 minute video. Sockeye has deep Portland roots—so it was a labor of love. After 15 months of shooting at countless locations, and 80 hours of footage they clearly left a lot on the cutting room floor.

The goal was to show the evolution of Portland. Sure people know it is green, western and outdoorsy. Continue reading... “Featured Video: Portland, Oregon”

Filmin' in the Rain and Other Oregon Myths

By David Poulshock

My best friend is writing a musical called RAIN. He’s a master at irony and his show is set in a globally-warmed future when rain no longer falls in Portland. Its anthem is “What’s Portland Without the Rain?” Obama had to have his John McCain / Send out Lewis without a Clark? That’s insane / Would you Bogey without Bacall / What’s a Taj with no Mahal / So what’s the point of Portland without the rain? 1.
