On Sunday, March 25th, the Dill Pickle Club kicks off of A Place Called Home: Lectures on Filmmaking in Portland, a monthly lecture series focused on the history of movie-making in the city, at Cinema 21 with guests David Cress, Walt Curtis, Shawn Levy and David Walker.
DAVID CRESS will talk about Portland’s tradition of advertising and how it’s nourished the film community. Once again in April Oregon is home to a series of great film festivals in consecutive weeks. The eleventh annual Ashland Independent Film Festival is happening April 12-16. This year the festival is honoring acclaimed director Julie Taymor. With Ms. Taymor’s experience in both live theater and film, it makes perfect sense that Oregon Shakespeare Festival Artistic Director Bill Rauch will join Ms. Taymor on stage for a certain lively and engaging discussion. Portland film Population: 2, directed by Gil Luna, has been receiving a multitude of awards and recognitions since it finished production in December of 2011. Top among these has been the reception of an Award of Merit by The Indie Fest and an Award of Excellence from the Accolade Competition.

As we get closer to the OPIF tax credit auction, new information on the Film Tax Credit Auction is available. Below is the most current details on how this auction will proceed:
The total amount of tax credits that will be auctioned is $6million

This week the the 35th Portland International Film Festival begins its three week celebration of cinema from all over the globe. Last year Portland’s powerhouse ad agency Weiden + Kennedy made waves with their Chrysler commercial featuring Eminem. This year it was Clint Eastwood. This past year Portland Headquartered Ad Agency Weiden + Kennedy had a realization. They needed to be better connected to innovative tech startups. So what did they do? They freed up some office space and started their own startup incubator called the Portland Incubator Experiment. With the help of several brands including Coca-Cola, Target, and Google, W+K invited entrepreneurs to apply for a three month stay along with $18,000 and access to some top mentors in the startup world.
