Call for Entries for the 43rd Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival

– The Northwest Film Center asks filmmakers based in the Northwest region to submit their recent work for consideration for the 43rd Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival (NW Fest). The Festival is the longest running Festival in the region and was named one of Moviemaker Magazine’s Top 20 Coolest Festivals in 2013.

The 43rd Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival continues the Film Center’s tradition of bringing moving image artists of the Northwest together to share ideas, discover resources available to them, inspire, be inspired and to showcase their finest work to greater audiences. Hollywood Theatre To Open Annex At PDX

Screen Shot 2015-12-30 at 9.04.01 AMBoring, long layovers and frustrating weather delays will be a thing of the past  –  the Hollywood Theatre is opening an annex theatre in gate C6 at Portland Internatinal Airport. With approximately 5-8 million people passing through every year, the opportunity to entertain travelers while they wait, will be a welcome “first” for a US airport.

“Out Of The Darkness” Wraps

darkness-wrapIts a wrap for the locally produced feature film “Out of the Darkness.” After four weeks, and multiple locations, the producers would like to thank, the local crew and vendors, the local cast, Oscar nominated actor Graham Greene, and the Oregon Film Office.  “Out of the Darkness” expected release date by Origin Releasing is in early Summer 2016. We are looking forward to our next feature production in January 2016, “Justice.”

SOAR, a new documentary featuring local dancers Kiera Brinkley and Uriah Boyd and directed by local filmmaker Susan Hess Logeais, will premiere on Thursday, October 22 at 7:30 pm.  The screening will take place at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland), and will feature a Q&A with the director Susan Hess Logeais as well as co-producers Kiera Brinkley and Uriah Boyd. Tickets are available in advance at the Hollywood Theatre website or at the door for $10, $5 for Students (with ID). Portland-Based Film “Birds of Neptune” Has Acquired Distribution Through Brinkvision

 

BONposterplainSteven Richter’s feature film “Birds of Neptune” has been acquired by Brinkvision for US distribution.  The film is scheduled to be released on DVD and VOD in early 2016.

The award winning film “Birds of Neptune” was shot in Portland, Oregon with an all local cast and crew and all local vendors.  It premiered at Slamdance early this year and has since gone on to screen at festivals throughout the US  and was the opening night film at the Portland Film Festival. Historic Oregon Theater Is Added to HPLO’s “Most Endangered Historic Places” List

The Historic Preservation League of Oregon (Restore Oregon) just released their list of the “most endangered historic places” in Oregon.  Communities nominated their top choices and the HPLO chose ten.  Of that ten, one is the 85 year old Egyptian Theatre, in downtown Coos Bay. Inside is an original Wurlitzer organ, hand-painted backdrops. According to OPB, the City of Coos Bay “purchased the theater in 2006. After it was listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, a required structural inspection revealed that the building is unsafe to occupy; repairs and other renovations will cost about $3.7 million.” Continue reading... “Historic Oregon Theater Is Added to HPLO’s “Most Endangered Historic Places” List”

Portland Opera And OMSI To Expand “Opera On Screen” Film Series

AidaPortland Opera and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) will expand their collaborative “Opera on Screen” film series this fall. “Opera on Screen” began in September 2014 with high-definition screenings of four San Francisco Opera productions.

The 2015 series will include four new San Francisco Opera titles—Verdi’s Aida, the Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia, and Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov—as well as two bonus screenings—a Halloween weekend duo of The Phantom of the Opera with Lon Chaney and Brian De Palma’s cult classic, Phantom of the Paradise, a contemporary adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera.
