Kelly Reichardt and Neil Kopps’ latest feature, “Certain Women” (written and directed by Reichardt) opened  to great reviews (New York Times, Variety, LA Times,Vanity Fair) and a strong box office (#2 indie box office.)

Bill Plympton Speaks, Oct. 15 & 16, UNDERGROUND USA

On Oct 15, 2016, two time Oscar nominee Bill Plympton will appear as a guest speaker at Oregon Cartoon Institute‘s one day symposium UNDERGROUND USA. The following evening he will introduce a program of his short films at the Mission Theater.

UNDERGROUND USA is one day public history/arts education event which focuses on one chapter of Oregon print cartooning history. It was created in partnership with UO Comics & Cartooning Studies and PSU Comic Studies, and with support from Oregon Historical Society. “Brother Nature”, Shot in Klamath Falls, Opened Sept 9th

Lorne Michael’s “Brother Nature” opened September 9th – shot in and around Klamath Falls (down town, Lake of Woods Resort, Keno, among others) for 15 days in the summer of 2014.  The feature brought much financial benefit to local businesses, as well as hiring many Oregon crew.  Starring Taran Killam (“12 Years a Slave”, SNL), Bill Pullman, (“Independance Day”, “Lost Highway”), (Gillian Jacobs “Community”), Bobby Moynihan (SNL, “Inside out” “Sisters”), Rita Wilson (“Sleepless In Seattle”), and Sarah Burns, Ellen Bloodworth, Giancarlo Esposito, Rachael Harris, Kumail Nanjiani, Kenan Thompson and David Wain, and produced by Lorne Michael’s, written by Taran Killam, Mikey Day and Cameron Fay, directed by Matt Villines and Osmany “Oz” Rodriguez. Historic UO Alumni Filmmakers Receive Grant To Preserve Their Work

 The National Film Preservation Foundation announced their latest group of historic films that will receive funding to preserve them for record. Among them are; the “Luther Cressman Field Work Films” (1938 – 1954), an important documentation of work done by the UO archaeologist, Luther Cressman; and a feature (1953) by UO alumnus, James Blue, that won a Critic’s prize at Cannes (1962).

“Lean On Pete” Shooting In Oregon

 “Lean on Pete” tells the story of a 15-year-old boy named Charley Thompson, who, as Vlautin’s website explains, is “left to fend for himself by his wayward single father. Charley wanders to Portland Meadows racetrack one day and finds work with a surly, washed up horse trainer. NY Times Gives A Shout-out To Pappas & “Tracktown”

There is excitement building for the locally filmed and produced, “Tracktown”.  It is set to premier at the Los Angeles Film Festival next month.  The film explores the struggle to find an equilibrium between a world-class running career, and a regular life, inspired by Pappas’ own life.  Jeremy Teicher co-produced the movie with Pappas, and it was filmed on location at Hayward Field, Eugene.
