Cinema Pacific Festival Kicks Off In Eugene April 23rd
The fifth annual Cinema Pacific Festival starts on April 23, and the complete festival program is available online at http://cinemapacific.uoregon.edu. (A handy guide is downloadable here.)
Richard Herskowitz, Director of Cinema Pacific says, “This year I’m particularly excited about our partnership with UO Libraries on the James Blue Project, supplementing the exciting new archive of UO alumnus James Blue’s work that is being donated to Special Collections. Also, Cinema Pacific is working closely with the Schnitzer Museum on an array of live performances, panels, and media installations featuring Portland-based media artist Vanessa Renwick, titled Art for Endangered Species, as well as the annual new media exhibition and party, the Fringe Festival. To help studios and producers stay on top of crew and resources and to promote Oregon’s unique production advantages, the trade group Oregon Media Production Association (OMPA) has released the 2014 SourceOregon, a directory of the professional crew, talent, vendors and support services that make up Oregon’s bustling industry. International Bike Culture at 12th Annual Filmed by Bike
In 2003, Portland’s bicycle culture was really taking off. The creativity, grassroots spirit and wild enthusiasm was undeniable so it’s no surprise a film festival – Filmed by Bike – was in the mix of endeavors that rose out of this formative era. Year after year a primarily Portland-based pool of filmmakers submitted films to the festival, which this year runs April 19-22 at the Clinton St. Theater.

DisOrient Asian American Film Festival – April 10-13 Events
DisOrient 2014, Eugene, Oregon
The 9th Annual DisOrient Asian American Film Festival returns to the Bijou Art Cinemas in Eugene, Oregon on April 10-13, 2014. DisOrient celebrates new, independent films about Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) that showcase AAPI writers, directors, actors, and artists who deliver brilliant scripts, creative animation, diverse casts, and fresh storytelling.
DisOrient 2014 will be welcoming 25 attending filmmakers and actors from Oregon, New York, LA, San Francisco, Mid-West USA, Hawaii, Canada, and Iran.
The 2014 DisOrient Festival will hold its first ever Social Justice Special Event on Thursday, April 10 featuring the Academy Award Nominated documentary “The Act of Killing,” which records the shocking memories of paramilitary officers who proceeded to eradicate Indonesian Chinese during the 1960’s. Portland Workforce Alliance Youth Careers Expo Had A Strong Turnout
Last week saw a strong turnout for the Annual Portland Workforce Alliance NW Youth Careers Expo. Oregon Film asked members of the production community to join us in showcasing an array of production job opportunities that are here in Oregon. With a staggering 5,000 students attending, it was a productive day showing future job possibilities in a hands-on way.
We thank Tim Oakley (Oakley Design Studios), who had some amazing hand-made props on display, LAIKA House, who brought sketch books for the students as well as a ParaNorman puppet with various “faces” to illustrate how stop-motion works; Koerner Camera had their RED camera running; Bent Image Lab had an array of their amazing puppets to examine; video game developer SuperGenius was on hand showing students the possibilities of working in the exiting gaming world; Loren Haleston talked through his remote controlled cameras for his high quality automotive video media business. Moviemaker Magazine Awards Two Oregon Cities With Honors For “Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker 2014”!
In years gone by, Moviemaker Magazine lumped together big city and small town to compete for the sought after title of, “Best Places To Live and Work as a Moviemaker”. This year, the magazine has split their list into three components:
- Top Big Cities (they define as more than 50,000 residents)
- Top Small Cities (100,000)
- Top Towns (under 100,000)

FiLMLaB’s 2014 Script to Screen Competition Now Open
Willamette Writers is soliciting entries for the 2014 FiLMLaB Script to Screen short film scriptwriting competition. We seek writers with the ability to tell a compelling story quickly and cinematically, while adhering to a theme and a practical eye towards real-life movie production. Unique to scriptwriting contests, the Script to Screen Competition grand prize is this: we will produce a short film based on the winning script!
