DisOrient 2014, Eugene, Oregon
The 9th Annual DisOrient Asian American Film Festival returns to the Bijou Art Cinemas in Eugene, Oregon on April 10-13, 2014. DisOrient celebrates new, independent films about Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) that showcase AAPI writers, directors, actors, and artists who deliver brilliant scripts, creative animation, diverse casts, and fresh storytelling.
DisOrient 2014 will be welcoming 25 attending filmmakers and actors from Oregon, New York, LA, San Francisco, Mid-West USA, Hawaii, Canada, and Iran.
The 2014 DisOrient Festival will hold its first ever Social Justice Special Event on Thursday, April 10 featuring the Academy Award Nominated documentary “The Act of Killing,” which records the shocking memories of paramilitary officers who proceeded to eradicate Indonesian Chinese during the 1960’s. This is separately ticketed from the VIP Passes sold for the April 11-13 DisOrient film festival.
The entire weekend schedule is now up on the DisOrient website at www.disorientfilm.org. Purchase of the Friday Opening film ticket includes free admission to the Opening reception at the Schnitzer Museum located on the UP campus. Purchase of the Sunday Closing film ticket includes free admission to the Closing Awards reception. The generosity of DisOrient’s sponsors make possible two free film blocks, one on Saturday and one of Sunday.
A special event late Saturday night, April 12, is a music video by Kate Rigg of the music group Slanty Eyed Mama. Kate Rigg is a writer, singer, actor, speaker, and comedienne who incorporates multi-cultural reality in her music and writing. Always unapologetic, observant, eloquent, and hysterical, Kate Rigg will conduct a “talk-back” with the audience about race issues in the contemporary experience of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
Individual screening block ticket prices range from $5-$12. Advance All Access VIP Passes for $50 includes access to the filmmakers reception area, and admission to the Opening and Closing night receptions. VIP Passes are now on sale at www.disorientfilm.org. On-site VIP Passes will be sold for $60. Individual screening tickets can be purchased in advance via the website or on site at the Bijou.
DisOrient is a grass-roots, volunteer-operated film festival sponsored by the Chinese American Benevolent Association (CABA).
