Fox12 highlights local stuntman, Kent Luttrell, who has doubled actors from Danny Devito to Michael J. Fox. Luttrell got his start as  “the body”, Ray Brower, in the classic movie, “Stand By Me” (shot in Brownsville 30 years ago this year).

Laika Wins Technical Oscar’s Award For 3-D Printing Technology

Laika uses stop-motion animation techniques to bring their characters to life, but with hundreds of puppets needed for the process it is painstaking to create the many expressions and movement needed to make the action fluid.  The studio overcame this by becoming early adopter’s of the 3-D printing process that enabled them to create the many minuscule changing facial features without losing any of the artistry that goes into each puppet. Fox12’s Highlights Two More Locals In Their “More Movies” Series

Fox12’s “More” series has been focussing on “More Movies” and has recently highlighted two more local business owners, 360 Labs and Greg McMickle.

Indie Portland Game Developers Organize Cartoon Network Game Jam

The Portland Indie Game Squad (PIGSquad) and Rose City Game Consulting Run are organizing a 48 hour Game Jam (Feb 12-14th)  – “The Cartoon Network Game Jam“.  The event will feature the cable channel’s characters that indie game designers will use to create their game ideas.   Teams will have 48 hours in which to create a prototype, and that will then be judged by Cartoon Network staff. (Teams can sign up here.)  The winning team will be offered a chance to negotiate a development deal with the Cartoon Network, which will offer the chance to realize the winning prototype’s full potential with a mobile roll out. Hollywood Theatre To Open Annex At PDX

Screen Shot 2015-12-30 at 9.04.01 AMBoring, long layovers and frustrating weather delays will be a thing of the past  –  the Hollywood Theatre is opening an annex theatre in gate C6 at Portland Internatinal Airport. With approximately 5-8 million people passing through every year, the opportunity to entertain travelers while they wait, will be a welcome “first” for a US airport.

Discovery’s hugely successful “Deadliest Catch” (now in it’s 12th season) has a new spin off – “Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove“.  Produced by Original Productions for Discovery, the show will be featuring a cast of local Newport fishermen, and their families. In a race against time they will be attempting to catch as many fish as they can during the open season in the typically treacherous conditions of the “graveyard of the Pacific”. Fullbright’s “Gone Home” Is Coming To A Console Near You

The Oregon, independent game designer, Fullbright, has announced that their popular, and multi- award-winning game, “Gone Home“, will now be available in a console edition, January 12th.  Next up for Fullbright, is Tacoma, coming in 2016.

LAIKA Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Congratulations to LAIKA, who are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this month.  LAIKA has continued to hold it’s own over the last decade, producing animated features that are works of art in their own right – beginning in 2009 with “Coraline“, “ParaNorman“, “The Boxtrolls“, and currently in production, “Kubo and the Two Strings“.
