Congratulations To Todd Haynes ~ Nominated For Golden Globe Best Director (“Carol”)

Congratulations to Portlander, Todd Haynes, nominated in the category of Best Director for “Carol“. The 76th Golden Globe Award nominees were announced today.  “Carol”, a 1950s romance, landed five nominations (including best picture, drama) altogether.

“Certain Women” (Kelly Reichardt) To World Premiere At Sundance 2016

Sundance announced today it’s world premiere festival lineup, and the latest Kelly Reichardt film, “Certain Women” (written and directed by Reichardt) is in the mix.  Although Reichardt, and her producer Neil Kopp,  have shot most of their projects in Oregon (“Night Moves“, “Meek’s Cutoff“,”Wendy and Lucy“, “Old Joy“) this film was shot elsewhere, but post was done here in the state.

Ashland local, Sean Nipper, has won the Samsung NX1 Sweepstakes.  Sean got his start in theatre and educational films in Ashland, southern Oregon.  He then moved to the bay area, and opened a small production company.  Nipper recently returned to southern Oregon to raise his family, where he now runs his new company, Reel House Films.

Oregon Media Production Community Rolls Out Red Carpet, Honors Best Local Performances Of The Year

The annual 2015 Oregon Actors Awards took place at the Portland Center Stage, to a packed house over the week end.  The awards recognized outstanding members of Oregon’s film, video and multimedia industry.  Four awards were given to film, TV and commercial actors, and one for community service.

The US Commercial Service Office and their counterparts in the U.S. Embassy in Brazil, are supporting U.S. firms participation in the Rio Content Market (RCM) next March.  They would like to get the word out to the Oregon creative community who has content they may be interested in offering internationally.  The exhibition is the largest event of its kind in Latin America (3500 attendees last year).

100 Episodes Of “Grimm” Has Meant Job Growth, Local Business Support & Portland Recognition

Portland celebrated “Grimm’s” 100th episode on Tuesday.  Thank you to Governor Kate Brown, Nick Fish, Oregon legislators and the cast and crew who all gathered on the “Grimm” stage to celebrate this occasion.  And there is a lot to celebrate in addition to the show reaching it’s 100th milestone:

  • more than 250 million dollars has been directly spent by “Grimm” in Oregon thus far
  • more than a 70% job growth in the motion picture & video industry over the last five years
  • over 350 companies that have benefited from business with the show

Clackamas Community College And Oregon Story Board Awarded $100,000 Microsoft Grant

Microsoft’s HoloLens Academic Grant  was awarded to five educational institutions nationwide, along with two Microsoft HoloLens Development Edition devices, to each recipient, to further aid their research and development of their respective projects. Clackamas Community College and OSB will use the HoloLens technology to “develop a trade-based curriculum for Clackamas students, particularly students in the automotive program”.
