Portland Film Festival Presents “Pride Stories” – June 4

Indie Film Series, a program of the Portland Film Festival, is proud to announce an update to the 2024/25 monthly screening on Tuesday, June 4th, with “Brothers” local co-directors Emmett J. Lundberg, and Sheya Ghieth, and “Our Dad Danielle’s” director S.E. King in attendance.

“Emmett, Sheya, and S.E. are incredibly talented and inspiring filmmakers, and we are thrilled to showcase their remarkable work here in Portland. Their courage in sharing their unique trans stories is an important contribution to the rich tapestry of our city’s history, especially during Pride month.

Oregon Film – Who We Are and What We Do (June 2024 Update)

It’s that time of year again. Here’s an update on the work we’ve been doing.

Oregon Film, sometimes called the Oregon Film & Video Office other times called the Governor’s Office of Film & Television, is the oldest US state film commission that we know of. Founded in 1968 our mission is to develop, grow and support the film and media industry here in Oregon.

That mission has pretty much remained the same for years but the things that we do and how we try to achieve them often change.

PAM CUT Workshop: Access as Art and Practice in Creative Projects

In this artist talk and workshop on June 5 at PAM CUT, Ariel Baska, multiple disabled horror filmmaker and disability advocate, shares their experiences using accessibility tools as a uniquely creative layer. They are joined by Cheryl Green, of the Social Audio Description Collective, to talk through how captions and audio description can intertwine aesthetically with the work. By working in this way, artists can provide access that is both integral to the art and opens up new artistic worlds to audiences they have never reached before.

Oregon Premiere of #OregonMade “Why Dig When You Can Pluck” June 27

Join us for a night of local multimedia storytelling! Featuring local filmmaker Cambria Matlow’s new film “Why Dig When You Can Pluck” at the Tomorrow Theatre on June 27.

Synopsis: “A filmmaker seeking inspiration for her next movie brings her volatile husband and defiant young son camping on the Oregon coast. When her competing desires to be a good mother and creative artist come to a hilt, she reaches a painful but powerful breakthrough.” Prior to the film, Lindsay Baltus will kick off the evening with her storytelling piece “Pregnant in the Archives,” inspired by her personal experience with childbirth, interspersed with archival recordings of a feminist consciousness-raising groups of the 1970s.

POV Filmmakers Free Monthly Mixer – June

Join us for the POV Filmmakers June mixer on June 27th, 7-9 pm. We’ll have trivia to kick off the meeting, then a presentation by Storyboard Artist Dan Schaefer, Q&A, and time for networking.
This brief introduction to the field of the storyboard artist will include the basic skills needed, working with a director(s), and using your knowledge of film to tell a story that can be interpreted by the crew. This introduction will be followed by a Q&A.
Veteran storyboard artist Dan Schaefer has worked in the film,TV and commercial industry with companies such as Paramount, Nike, Wayfair, Nissan, Amazon, BBC, Marvel, Geico, NBC and many others since 1986.

#OregonMade “Above the Trees” Comes to Portland

During an extensive tour throughout Oregon, Southern Oregon shot “Above the Trees,” the 5th movie produced by local filmmakers Joma Films (who made Phoenix, Oregon, Calvin Marshall, and Redwood Highway), screens for one night only at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland this Wednesday May 22 at 7pm.
The filmmakers, director Gary Lundgren and producer Annie Lundgren, will be in attendance for a Q&A after the screening.

Come watch a stellar film made under the SAG micro-budget agreement. Learn about producing films in Oregon with both regional and Hollywood actors and the ins-and-outs of self distribution.

Congratulations Post Production Grant Recipients 2024

The Portland Events and Film Office, in partnership with Travel Portland, is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Post Production Grant to five feature films.  The funding is designed to encourage the completion of a local feature-length film and position local producers to build toward larger, more resourced productions. Past recipients of the Post-Production Grant have included “Nora” by Anna Campbell and Dawn Redstone Jones’ “Mother of Color,” the latter picked up by Amazon Prime Studios for worldwide streaming distribution.
