It’s April, it’s beginning to sprout green everywhere you look and there are many good and green projects out there that make evident Oregonians are doing their part for Earth Day and a  “A Billion Acts of Green®” this year.

The Ashland Independent Film Festival is screening a handful of Oregon made eco-films, the 48 Hour Go Green project has chosen two Oregon filmmakers to screen at Cannes and we have been working with the Producers Guild of America to help with a searchable green vendor data base to help green your next project. Oregon is host to two very exciting film festivals coming soon to Ashland Oregon as well as Eugene Oregon.

Documentary HOOD TO COAST returns to Oregon!

The locally produced feature film documentary Hood To Coast just finished two successful nationwide Event screenings in over 380 theaters, selling out shows in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Atlanta, and several other major markets.  The film Hood To Coast follows four unlikely teams on their epic adventure as they try to conquer the world’s largest relay race. The film, produced by Film For Thought, Inc., was shot over the span of 11 months in Oregon in 2008 with half of the 100 crew members hired locally. What a Sundance Festival for Oregon Films!  Today it was announced that Ashland based Susan Saladoff sold her documentary “Hot Coffee” to HBO. This is Susan’s first film and the success of the film is sure to make everyone believe that documentary film making is still viable.  Credit does go to Susan’s ability to tell a compelling story but she also created a great on line presence for the film. Attending our Annual Meeting was Governor Kulongoski, members of the Governor’s Office of Film & Television Board, as well nominees for the annual awards and a large audience of industry professionals at the newly rennovated Lincoln Performance Hall at PSU on Friday evening.   PSU‘s technical team made it possible to catch up on industry happenings in Ashland, Bend and Eugene via  live broadcast by teleconference bridge.

With our Annual Meeting a little over a week away, things are coming together and I know it’s going to be a great night!  As for the annual meeting here is the date and time:

December 17 @ 7:00

There will be a statewide teleconference so if you live in or nearby Ashland, Bend, Eugene, or Portland, you can attend.  It’s open to the public.

Oregon Film Annual MeetingMark your calendars… the Oregon Film Annual Meeting will be held Friday,  December 17th at 7:00PM.   This year’s meeting will once again be a state-wide teleconference event thanks to the support of our friends in Bend, Eugene, and Ashland.  The Portland location for the meeting will be Portland State University’s Lincoln Hall.

In the last few weeks there have been a number of projects that have applied for the Indigenous Oregon Production Investment Program (iOPIF), and now all the available funds have been fully committed.  In total 13 projects have been qualified for the program and projects have been produced or are set to be produced in the Portland area, Central Oregon and Ashland.  The first project was the Brothers Freeman film “Wake Before I Die” back in January of this year.  Continue reading... “The iOPIF Program Does Its Job – Funds Fully Committed”

Southern Oregon Film and Television is proud to present its upcoming SOFaT Filmmaker Series special screening of “Star Trek IV: The Journey Home”, projected in 35mm at the Varsity Theatre in downtown Ashland. Immediately following the film, there will be a live discussion and Q&A with the film’s writer and producer Harve Bennett, veteran of 4 Star Trek films from The Wrath of Khan to The Final Frontier as well as other films and notable TV shows.

Date: Saturday, October 23rd

Time: 6:30pm

Location: Varsity Theatre, downtown Ashland

Whether it’s the thriving independent music scene, live theater, or a combination of multiple creative disciplines, there is no doubt Oregon is a thriving base of creative expression.   According to the Oregon Arts Commission over 60,000 jobs in Oregon are directly related to the creative economy.  That may not sound like a lot of jobs but when you figure that Oregon has about 1/10 of the population of California, it’s a large section of the total workforce in Oregon.  So when a film or television project comes to Oregon, there is a rich and diverse depth of talent to pull from.
