ParaNorman Nominated For 8 Annie Awards

It’s gratifying to see ParaNorman (Focus features + Laika) nominated eight times for an Annie Award, including Best Picture.

In Individual Achievement nominations there are seven categories in which ParaNorman talent gets a nod:

Animated Effects; Andrew Nawrot, Joe Gorski, Grant Laker, Character Animation; Travis Knight, Directing; Sam Fell, Chris Butler, Character Design; Heidi Smith, Production Design; Nelson Lowry, Ross Stewart, Pete Oswald Ean McNamara, Trevor Dalmer, Storyboarding; Emmanuela Cozzi and Writing; Chris Butler.

The 40th annual Annie Awards, honoring the best in animation, will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2013.

The NW Film Center & Project Viewfinder: From the Streets to the Screen

 

Without question, those of us creatively engaged in the local film scene are blessed to be able to participate in our growing industry.  As we head into the holiday giving season, the NW Film Center would love to encourage OMPA members to become acquainted with a new program we’re developing to help those without a voice tell their stories through the medium of film.

There is an estimated 1,500-2,000 homeless youth in Portland.  PROJECT VIEWFINDER is our response to this humbling statistic.

Newest Info – Doors open to Annual Meeting – January 15 5:30 PM Come See Second Story Installation

We’re getting lots of interest in the annual meeting and for good reason!  It’s going to be a great night!  You’re going to want to get there early.  Doors to the theater open at 5:30PM and as you are entering the theater, be sure to check out the awesome installation from Second Story Interactive Studios.  Second Story is this year’s recipient of our “Innovation In Media Arts Award” so we’re thrilled to have them show off their work.

“Portlandia” Winter Special and Season 3 Guest Star Lineup

Good news for fans of “Portlandia”: the hiatus is almost over and new episodes will be airing soon. Season 3 of the IFC show starring Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein kicks off on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 10pm.  If that seems like a long time to wait for your “Portlandia” fix, there’s more good news: a special new episode, “Winter in Portlandia,” airs on Friday, December 14th at 10:30/9:30c.

IFC also just announced some of the guest stars that will be visiting Portlandia in the coming season.

Print Deadline: Oregon’s Production Directory – SourceOregon

This Friday Nov 30 is the deadline to list in the 2013 print edition of SourceOregon, the industry directory of professional crew, talent, production and post-production companies, equipment vendors and support services in Oregon. It is a simple process: Click “Get Listed” at www.SourceOregon.com and follow the instructions. References or reputable IMDB credits are required.

SourceOregon is how Oregon’s commercial, film, TV and interactive media production industry stays connected and represents itself to the world. It is published in print and online and features a magazine dedicated to promoting Oregon’s industry, over 800 individuals and companies, with over 1,500 professional listings representing members of OMPA (the Oregon Media Production Association), IATSE, SAG/AFTRA, Teamsters, camera, directors and producers unions, and representation of crew and services organized around the state to serve production needs.

Bent Produced Hallmark Sequel “Jingle and Bell’s Christmas Star” to Premiere November 23 on Hallmark Channel

This media release just came out about the next installment of Bent Image Lab’s holiday specials.  You’ll remember that last year Bent produced the original “Jingle All the Way” and this year they have already produced Hallmark’s “Hoops and Yo Yo” Halloween special.  This marks their third project with the Hallmark Channel.

Bent Image Lab and Hallmark Channel  are excited to present “Jingle and Bell’s Christmas Star” the sequel to the critically acclaimed stop motion production “Jingle All the Way”.

Cast and Crew of @NBCGrimm Give Back at Oregon Food Bank

With very little fanfare the cast and crew of the NBC series “Grimm” spent their weekend working two shifts at two different locations of the Oregon Food Bank packaging 24,139 pounds of food resulting in 15,259 meals for Oregonians in need.  The effort was largely organized by local film workers Bruce Lawson and Dawnn Pavlonnis, but in total there were over 30 volunteers representing members of IATSE, SAG/AFTRA, DGA, and the Teamsters looking to give a little back to the community.
